Beijing designer Guo Pei's fashion dream exhibition in Auckland
The Auckland Art Gallery in the city centre is a white castle-style building that often hosts regular and themed exhibitions. When we visited, we caught the 'Fashion, Art, Fantasy' exhibition by Beijing designer Guo Pei (female, born in 1967). The beautiful costumes used luxurious fabrics, hand-embroidered with metal hollowing, lace, and Swarovski crystals and rhinestones, presenting works that were rich in Chinese style and contained exotic patterns and colours. Works with themes such as 'Big Gold', 'Reincarnation', 'East Palace', 'Encounter' blurred the boundaries of fashion, sculpture, and stage art, allowing the audience to experience ingenious design and superb craftsmanship. According to the introduction, some individual works took up to 50,000 hours to create. The art gallery's top floor has a children's activity room that provides materials for free for hands-on craft making.
The Auckland Art Gallery is located in the city centre and is easy to find.
I would highly recommend visiting the Auckland Art Gallery as the exhibitions are thoughtfully curated and features both permanent and non permanent collection. We love the inspiring art by Robin White at the time we visited last December. There's a cafe and art shop where you can purchase unique crafts and souvenirs. Entrance is absolutely free.
After opening as a free public library and town hall in Oakland in 1887, part of the building was dedicated to the gallery. On February 17, 1888, the gates of the gallery were officially opened. From 1995 to 2011, the annex building of the new gallery was an important display site for contemporary art. After opening in 1887 as Auckland City's Free PublicLibrary and Municipal Offices, part of the building wasdevoted to the Gallery. Our doors officially opened on17 February 1888. From 1995 until 2011 the NEWGallery annexe functioned as a vital focus oncontemporary art.
The Auckland Gallery is also a famous art museum in New Zealand. The building is not very long, and the design of the building can be seen. The internal exhibition is also divided into different areas. The introduction of English is the main one. Other exhibitions will be held regularly.
