Malaysia's "The Wizard of Oz" - Kinabalu Moss Forest
⛰[Travel Guide]
📍Detailed address: Mossy forest, located on the map (@Cameron Highland)
🚗Transportation guide: Regular cars cannot be driven to the entrance of the forest because it is too dangerous. You need to book a four-wheel drive in advance to get to the gate. We drove to the BOH tea center and switched to the reserved four-wheel drive, which costs 25 Malaysian ringgit per person.
💰Ticket prices: 10 Malaysian Ringgit for Malaysians, 30 Malaysian Ringgit for foreigners.
🌟Highlight features: Legend has it that it is the oldest forest in Malaysia with a history of 200 million years. Walking through it is like entering a fairy tale world, full of unique charm.
📌Small Tips: There are two ways to visit the forest, one is to buy tickets (as introduced above) and walk on the plank road; the other is to truly hike in the forest. Walking on the plank road is suitable for everyone, with no restrictions on physical strength, equipment, and hiking experience. You can also experience the beauty of the mossy forest, as shown in my photos. Of course, if you are an advanced player and want to challenge hiking in the forest, remember to apply and make an appointment with a mountain guide in advance. You must have a mountain guide to lead the way, otherwise it is easy to get lost.
Don’t miss out an opportunity to appreciate nature while in Cameron Highlands. There are several choices to be at the peak but the most relaxing way is via jeep driven by an experienced driver. The view is breathtaking and the walkway is a bit slippery during rainy days. Just make sure to wear an appropriate shoes.
Our adventurous side got the better of us on our last day in Cameron Highlands - we booked a tour that included hiking in the Mossy Forest. It had rained heavily in the morning, so it was very foggy, and we felt like we were walking through the clouds. Up in Mossy Forest, we saw pitcher plants, ferns, and plant life unique to that climate. Although there is a clear walkway and stairs, be very very careful because it can be slippery, especially after rain.
really liked the mossy forest. nice and quick. 1 hour is probably all you will need and then travel time up and down from it. there are tours that offer combined trips of the forest with the tea plantation which is a good idea. would recommend. glad I visited
loved the mossy forest. would recommend doing this as part of a tour with the BOH plantation as they will then transport you up to it as you can’t drive yourself as it is very steep hill. both together will take up a morning. highly recommend.
Mossy Forest is at Gunung Brinchang, Cameron Highlands. A well preserved forest in Brinchang, blanketed with mysterious mist and growth ferns, moss, orchids & other lushy plant life. The view from the tower top is spectacular! Really enjoy the picturesque scenery and cool weather.Currently no private car allow to enter, so you must take 4WD via the tour agency.
