Quite a hike - but worth it!
We stayed at Schloss Glopper, which is owned by the same family as Alt-Ems castle and hiked the short distance down one mountain and up the next to see the views from the castle. Although it's only 1....
worth the climb
Parts of the climb to these ruins are quite steep but the trail is well maintained but can be slippery in the wet. View from the top is great- providing it's not raining. Requires climbing a metal lad...
Fabulous views, nice climb, impressive ruins.
The climb is steep, but you'll be glad you visited. Impressive ruins and fabulous views. The site where an important manuscript of the Niebelungenlied was discovered.
Castle ruins
Alt-Ems castle ruins have been torn down and the area is being rejuvenated, the current redevelopment works started in 2005. They are trying to save any existing standing walls.
