The climb is steep, but you'll be glad you visited. Impressive ruins and fabulous views. The site where an important manuscript of the Niebelungenlied was discovered.
Alt-Ems castle ruins have been torn down and the area is being rejuvenated, the current redevelopment works started in 2005. They are trying to save any existing standing walls.
