Frederic Wood, who founded the UBC Player's Club in 1915, directed many plays in UBC from 1916 to 1931. UBC has a "Theatre and Film Department", which was opened in 1953 by Frederic Wood Theatre. It has become a stage for teachers and students to show their works, often with Shakespeare's plays. The theatre is located behind Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery.
