In my opinion, this is certainly a spot that deserves a visit. It is better to take a bike to visit this spot as it is not in the immediate vicinity of the Pulau Ubin jetty. The story goes that before WW1 broke out, a German family was living here and when the hostilities started, the British military rounded up the Germans at this plantation. The teenager daughter fled into the woods and a few days later, her body was discovered. Today there is a simple shrine dedicated to her, with some candles at the altar and some joss sticks. No entry fee is required. It is set in tranquil settings and one can spend some time here, pondering the past of this place and this island.

The German Girl Shrine is a shrine on the island of Pulau Ubin in Singapore
Interesting if you know the story.A shrine to an unnamed German girl who lived and died on Pulau Ubin before WW1. The daughter of a plantation owner who died trying to escape being rounded up by the British before the war. She fell to her death in a quarry and her remains were found by others living on the island. She was buried on the island and a small shrine constructed.Somehow years later the girl became a Taoist deity to those in the area, and those on the mainland started to come to make offerings for luck at the shrine. There is more detail to the story, but you must do your own research! It is hardly something worth visiting the island for, but if you are there it is worth stopping by, and easy to find as it is marked on local maps.
