Thornton Hall now a Grade 1 listed building was built around 1550 by Ralph Tailbois. There werethree distinct walled gardens laid out with Elizabethan raised borders and an avenue of lime trees marking the entrance to the Hall.
Thornton Hall Gardens are surrounded by lots of interesting seats, some small corners so you can rest in the sun for a while, and there are gentle slopes throughout the area, which contribute to diversity, not just flatness. Plants are available for viewing, some for sale.
