Heilongjiang First Bay Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
About Mohe
From Harbin to Mohe, as soon as you leave the station, you can immediately feel the severe cold of Mohe. If your skin is exposed to the air, it will start to sting after a while. Eyelashes and hair are constantly jumping between freezing and melting every day, "How can my eyes melt" I think I actually felt it.
❄️ The luckiest thing in Mohe is probably that as soon as you leave the station, you meet a reliable driver. When my friend was making the travel plan, he found that the prices for chartered car tours found online were quite expensive, and with so many advertisements, it was hard to choose. So, we decided to just go with the flow and headed straight to Mohe. As we exited the Mohe train station, there were many drivers outside. One driver came up to ask us, and since we were two people, the driver found two more people and had us form a group on the spot, and so our Mohe journey began. The driver first took us to the Reindeer Park, where we clanged around in the hall getting equipped, making sure we were dressed to withstand the extreme cold of Mohe.
❄️ The first day's itinerary: Reindeer Park ➩ Birch Forest ➩ China's Northernmost Point ➩ Longjiang First Bay
The Reindeer Park, China's Northernmost Point, and Longjiang First Bay all require tickets to enter. The attractions are quite far apart from each other, and it gets dark early in Mohe, so we didn't linger long at each spot, just took some photos and left.
❄️ We returned to Beiji Village at the end of the day, and we all stayed in Beiji Village that night. There is also a fee to enter Beiji Village. The next day, the driver arranged for us to experience throwing water into ice, and then we played around in Beiji Village. There are two options for sightseeing: the first is to walk to each attraction on your own, and the second is to take a horse-drawn sled. The sled takes you to the attractions and waits nearby until you finish visiting, then pulls you to the next spot, covering a total distance of about 5 kilometers. Choose based on personal preference.
❄️ Then, the driver took us along the road to check in at the northernmost post office, Heilongjiang River, and the northernmost sentry post, and finally, we returned to the Mohe city area, ending our two-day group tour, only needing to pay the driver for the carpooling fee.
❄️ The two-day carpooling experience was excellent, with friendly and easy-going companions, and the driver, a local from Mohe, didn't try to sell us anything. Instead, he always chattered on, taking the trouble to explain things to us, and whenever he found a place he thought was worth checking in, he would stop the car and let us get out to take photos. The other two companions hadn't booked a hotel in the Mohe city area, and the driver was able to make a phone call based on their sightseeing needs and arrange accommodation for them close to the Mohe dance hall, which they said was clean and very cheap.
❄️ In the Mohe city area, we were free to explore, walking along the streets of Mohe, admiring the macaron-colored buildings, and going to the North Star Square to see the panoramic view of Mohe. In the evening, we went to the Mohe dance hall to dance with the uncles and aunties, and even boldly requested and sang songs. Each person can request one song for free every day.
Overall, Mohe feels like a lonely yet romantic city to me, and I think I will miss it a lot.
The autumn beauty of Longjiang Bay is picturesque
The autumn here in Longjiang Bay is so beautiful, the leaves have started to turn yellow and take on color. Although it's a bit cool here, it's not the chilly autumn atmosphere. The river water has become very calm, and the blue waters gently flow through the small bay. Even though we need to wear thicker cotton clothes in the morning and evening, it's still very pleasant at noon. This is the autumn scenery of Longjiang Bay, which won't last long, so if you want to appreciate the beauty here, hurry up and come.
Mohe three-day two-night trip
Upon arriving in Harbin, naturally, one must visit Mohe.
In mid-March, catch the last bit of snow, with the weather forecast predicting temperatures between -20 and 0 degrees Celsius. It still feels very cold in the morning and evening, so gloves and hats are necessary, and the wind can be painfully cold.
Itinerary
🌟 Longjiang First Bay Scenic Area (admission 50 + sightseeing car 60)
It takes about 2 hours to reach the scenic area from Mohe Station, which is a combination of a forest park and the Heilongjiang river beach. The sightseeing car first goes to the northernmost point of China for a photo op, then continues on to the Wusuli Shoal where you disembark. Climb over a thousand steps on a wooden walkway to reach the viewing platform, then take the sightseeing car back to the entrance of the scenic area. Climbing the wooden walkway is quite strenuous.
🌟 Beihong Village
It only takes half an hour to get from the First Bay to Beihong Village, and these two places are usually arranged on the same day. The village is very small with one main road and other than that, large fields scattered with some residential houses. The villagers mostly live in their own homes which also serve as guesthouses; the conditions are average. During this trip, we played with ice splashing and horse-drawn sleds; the horses belong to the guesthouse owners. We also ate there, and it must be even more beautiful when it snows heavily. Walking in the fields or along the river is very peaceful and comfortable.
🌟 Nvjiawan (Birch Forest)
On the way from Beihong Village to the Arctic Village, there is a birch forest. Walking into it, a small path leads to an environmental platform and a hillside. The combination of birch forest and snow is truly stunning! It's very suitable for taking photos and playing.
🌟 Arctic Village (admission 68)
The most comprehensive scenic area in Mohe, an hour away from the county town. Inside, there are walking wooden paths, parks, and squares with ice sculptures and various 'north' characters, as well as landmarks like the 'I found the north' stone monument; China's northernmost post office/bank/***; the first sentry post of China's northern border. There are also various specialty restaurants, but in my opinion, the taste and price can't compare with Harbin. If you're going to Harbin, I suggest having a simple meal here. I had a spicy hot pot from Sister Hua which was not bad, but many shops are closed during the off-season.
🌟 Ewenki Reindeer Tribe
The tour fee included the admission ticket, and I couldn't find the online ticket price. There are dozens of reindeer inside, and they prefer carrots (10 yuan)! Some of the reindeer are very lively and will chase you for food, and I had a lot of fun here.
🌟 Mohe County Town
The North Star Square is very small, just a marker and stairs. Songyuan Park in the city is a forest that is said to be the only area left from a past fire. Mohe Dance Hall is particularly small with an admission of 20. The Fire Memorial is not open in winter, so I didn't see it. There's not much to do in the county town; it has the dilapidation of a city area and the dullness of a city, haha.
Overall, the three-day itinerary is very fulfilling! Walking through the birch forest and fields in the heavy snow in Mohe is an unforgettable experience, and it's definitely worth a visit 🌟

✨Can you see the aurora in Mohe?
Many people come to Mohe hoping to see the aurora, but the aurora is unpredictable and depends on luck, even the locals rarely see it.
💞The best season to come to Mohe
There are two seasons each year that are the most suitable, one is June and July, at this time not only there is the annual summer solstice festival, if you are lucky, you can also see the aurora~
The other is December and January, at this time coming to Mohe not only can enjoy the snow, but also ski, watch mink show, experience horse pulling plow, etc., and may also see the aurora. The winter in Mohe can last up to 8 months (January-May, October-December).
Beihong Village | A border town full of Russian style
| A border town full of Russian style. Geographically, Beihong Village is further north than the Arctic Village, making it the true northernmost village. Beihong Village is surrounded by mountains on three sides, with the Heilongjiang River running through the village. Due to historical reasons, most of the villagers are of Russian ethnicity.
Beihong Village is not large, and its popularity is not as high as the Arctic Village, but it is worth a visit. Take a walk along the Binjiang Park, the river surface in winter becomes a good place for snow activities, where you can ride snowmobiles, play bumper cars with tires, and even freeze water.
Along the river, rows of wooden houses come into view. The eaves are covered with thick snow, as if they have been painted white, and the chimneys are emitting wisps of cooking smoke. The windows under the eaves are covered with a thin film for wind protection and warmth. Wooden fences outline the shape of the yard, some yards are used for parking, some yards are stacked with hay, and some yards have snow shoveling tools.
The streets are clean and tidy, occasionally a car drives by, occasionally a few horses run by, and after a brief hustle and bustle, there is a long silence. There is the northernmost outpost here, and you can also climb the northernmost viewing platform to overlook the village.
If you have time, you can stay for a night and experience the large kang of the Northeast. Here, food and accommodation are in the same house, and three meals are eaten directly in the homestay, tasting authentic farmhouse joy.

The northernmost point of China - the scenery here is unique
Located on the border of Heilongjiang, the northernmost point of China is a must-visit spot for tourists in Mohe. On the one hand, you can appreciate the scenery of the Sino-Russian border area, and on the other hand, you can carry out patriotic education.
The scenery near the northernmost point of China is simple and rustic. The two guards at the northernmost outpost are sacred and solemn. Combined with the winter snow scene, there is a sense of everything being awe-inspiring.
Suddenly I have a question, why didn't I see people on the opposite side of the border? Don't Russians travel? As a result, I found out that the opposite side of the border is a primitive forest that stretches for 200-300 kilometers, and it's a bit difficult to walk through.
Mohe Travel Recommendation
Winter is coming❄️, Mohe is almost all over the internet📱, so we also set off for Mohe🛤️~~~
.
🚗Travel mode
A train k7041 heading to Mohe Snow Country, 🔔 departs on time from Harbin Station, and arrives in ⏰17 hours.
The reason for choosing the train🚂 is because I think it's very poetic to slowly enter the snow country⛄️, and the scenery along the way is also worth stopping. Outside the train window🪟 are all birch trees, covered with layers of white snow☃️, the endless snow sea is fascinating.
.
⏰Recommended snow viewing time
Mid-November to early December, there will be snow, but not much.
Early December to late February, the period with the most snowfall throughout the year, is also the best time to watch the snow.

Mohe County Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
March Journey to Mohe | Heading North, Mohe at Its Finest
Here are some insights from this trip:
1. First, the temperature. As someone from the south where the lowest temperature is around minus three or four degrees, I had never experienced minus twenty or thirty degrees. So, I equipped myself well before going. During my time in Mohe, the temperature was basically between -10 and -30 degrees, but honestly, I didn't feel cold at all... Whatever I wore in Shanghai at zero degrees was enough here too... However, it's important to keep your hands and head protected. I highly recommend the insole warmers for your shoes and those hats that cover your entire head and face. That should do it...
2. When I went in March, there were very few people, probably because it was the off-season. It was very comfortable. Winter was just as it should be, with no one around, making it great for taking photos.
3. I took the snow country train in a soft sleeper, and the dozen or so hours passed quickly. The scenery along the way was great, a very nice experience. I saw mixed reviews online before I took it, but after trying it out, I would definitely recommend it, especially for those who haven't traveled much on green trains... There's no catering on the train, so remember to bring enough snacks and prepare a super large power bank...
4. Aurora, the locals say it's extremely difficult, don't get your hopes up... The aurora in Mohe is something you might encounter but can't seek out. But the stars are particularly beautiful, the sky full of stars coupled with the snowy scenery is absolutely stunning!
5. There's not much public transportation in Mohe, you basically have to rely on tours or chartering a vehicle.
Mohe in winter is a great place to enjoy and play in the snow, satisfying all your desires for a snow journey
❄ It's time for the annual snow appreciation and play, this winter, make a date with your sisters to go to Mohe in the northeast.
Experiencing the COLDEST part of China
Mohe is the coldest city in Daxing’anling prefecture Heilongjiang China. Take either a flight or train from Harbin to reach here. This place is very near to Russia's Amur Oblast and Zabaykalsky Krai with extreme cold weathers during winter, in fact summer only last from June to August. Visited this place during winter and is average -32 deg celcius daily and full of Christmas vibes, hotpot is definitely the best food to pair with the cold weather. Do visit the Most Northern Village of China 北極村 , Santa Village 聖誕老人村,and Song Yuan Nature 松苑 for the most authentic experience of Mohe. This location can also be an cheaper alternative visit than to South and North Pole. If you are lucky enough, will also get a slim chance to be able to catch northern lights too.
#Mohe #China #heilongjiang #Youtohbindou
In the Daxinganling area in the north of Heilongjiang, there is a border town, Mohe Town, which is located at the northernmost tip of China and is known as the Arctic Village of China. It can be said that it is the northernmost part of China in any place in Mohe. For example, "China's northernmost home, the northernmost post office, the northernmost primary school", etc., is said to be the only place in China where Aurora appears.
