Old Downton Lodge

The restaurant is in the old Granary and has been beautifully designed . The menu was individually designed with our name on it .. I have never seen that before . The amuses bouches were delicious and the set menu was £55 for 2 courses which is fantastically reasonable for such a high standard . My brill was amazing and my friend’s beef was so tender .

Fabulous food and wonderfully catered to an intolerance. Impeccable service and timing. Beautiful location and surroundings. Loved the personalised menus. Only recommendation is that, on a quiet evening, diners are given side tables so as to give more privacy. Highly recommend.

I booked the Old Downtown Lodge after reading the reviews . I was not disappointed. Everything from arriving to departing was excellent. The food was absolutely wonderful. We had the tasting menu and wine flight it was perfect and Thomasz’s knowledge regarding the wine was amazing. The staff were attentive and friendly. Our room was beautiful, spotless and cosy with all the amenities you need. The whole atmosphere was outstanding. The terrace and gardens are stunning. The buildings are so attractive with an amazing eye for detail. We loved everything about it. Can’t wait to visit again. Thank you all so much. A perfect stay in every way.

Lovely renovated spacious ancient room, We had the Tasting Menu which was excellent and quite filling (in our experience portions are often too small in Tasting Menus). Flavouring was strong and construction of dishes interesting (e.g. Goats cheese ice cream with the beetroot starter was lovely). The venison dish was very rich and the only dish that I would have readily swapped was the Tunworth on a crumpet. However I am not a big fan of crumpets, and I felt the extra carbs were unnecessary, Overall highly recommended with first class service.

Wonderful restaurant. They catered our wedding, and a year later their food is just as lovely. It was very special to celebrate our wedding anniversary here. Delicious food and excellent service.
