Enoshima Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
An island escape just off of Tokyo 🇯🇵
Enoshima (江の島) is a pleasantly touristy island just off the coast but connected by bridge with the mainland.
Attractions I visited:
Love Bell
Southern Coast
Iwaya Caves
Sea Candle
Enoshima Shrine
Getting there:
From Tokyo
Take the JR Tokaido Line from Tokyo Station or the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line from Shinjuku Station to Fujisawa Station (45-50 minutes, 990 yen) and transfer to either the Enoden (10 minutes, 220 yen) or Odakyu Railway (7 minutes, 160 yen) for Enoshima. Alternatively, get off at Ofuna (40-45 minutes, 820 yen) and transfer to the Shonan Monorail for an exciting ride to Enoshima (15 minutes, 320 yen, stand or sit at the front of the car for interesting views).
From Kamakura
The one way trip between Kamakura and Enoshima by Enoden train takes 25 minutes and costs 260 yen. There are trains about every ten minutes.

Iwaya cave
Two touristy and easily walkable caves can be found in the cliffs along Enoshima's southern coast. The first cave contains some Buddhist statues, while the second cave is dedicated to the legendary dragon that used to terrorize the area.Carved by aeons of tidal erosion, the Iwaya Caves consist of two caves which are 152 meters and 56 meters deep respectively. These caves have long been the subject of religious faith, and during the Edo Period, many worshippers gathered here as a sacred site of the Benzaiten faith. Today, the caves are a popular tourist spot. From the exhibits on display here, visitors can get a sense of how Enoshima’s history and culture have developed over the centuries.

Enoshima Sea Candle Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Enoshima Candle Light
#thingstodo Paid the small price of admission for a ride to the top and the view. With a telephoto lens, I could actually see the Tokyo Skytree from the top. There are two (2) observation levels at the top, one enclosed and one open air. My visit was on a warm sunny day and the open observation deck was the place to be. All in all this was a worthwhile experience and recommended.
Seacandle Light
#2024wish Beautiful place to remember the stunning sunset view. The Illumination Garden is amazing. The night view of the island is awesome from the top. The sunset terrace arrangement is too good. There are kids playing area too. Must visit place during the new year holiday season.Beautiful views, especially during evening time. The garden will close at 20:00.
The negative impression was that the two types of music were playing at the same time and the announcement voice destroyed the beautiful ambient.
I wish to travel to south korea in 2024
Enoshima Sea Candle
The place is beautifully decorated with thousands of candles.

There are paid elevator to reach the top and we can opt to walk around 30mins too
There is a souvenir shop, a restaurant and some food stalls on the top.

Enoshima Shrine Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
We visited as we wanted to get to the top of the island and also go to the caves and this was on the way up so we had a good look around. It is a lovely walk from Enoshima across a bridge that is around 1/2 km. We had a great view of Mt. Fuji on our journey and the lovely beach as well. Once you reach the island then the hiking begins. This is not for anyone who has health issues that may prevent them from walking up many, many flights of stairs. We purchased passes for the escalator system that will allow you to skip the difficult part of the hike but be aware that there is still many more flights of stairs to conquer to reach the destination. It is very beautiful and well worth the work to reach it. Not too many crowds on a weekday. The view from the top is breathtaking with Mt. Fuji looming in the distance and sea hawks flying all around (beware if you are eating outdoors as they do prey on tourists and locals alike and will steal your food from you and possibly injure you). I would absolutely make the journey again if I have the opportunity.

Enoshima Shrine
#thingstodo
This whole place is an amazing experience, and you could easily spend a full day here without realising it. Street foods are plentiful (though often packed), make sure you're checking the map as you're moving around as you can get distracted by other attractions. Don't forget the bridge crossing to go into the caves, but be aware of the amount of stair climbing that you will do.
Enoshima Shrine
A beautiful shrine, it is the first shrine at the first landing on Enoshima Island. The stairs leading there, start at the street and go through a lot of stores, cafes and restaurants as you get to the Torii gate. The shrine is beautiful with a white dragon and an area to bless your coins. The shrine also has a small museum that I recommend you view. The stairs are worth the it but you’ll still see everything , if you take the escalators.
In 2024 I wish to visit this place again.

Depart before Christmas Eve for the Atami Sea Fireworks Festival
🎆Atami Fireworks Display
Known as the best fireworks festival in Japan!
It is a fireworks show held regularly throughout the year, not limited to summer, and will welcome its 72nd year by the summer of 2023.
The first is the finale, namely the climax of the event called 'Niagara Falls in the Sky', the finale of each event 'Niagara in the Sky', is not a variety of fireworks, but the stars launched from the entire venue.
The second is the 'launch site'.
Atami Bay is highly praised by the fireworks company as the best place to launch fireworks in Japan, surrounded by mountains on three sides, the 'mortar' shape of the bay makes the sound of fireworks echo on the sea surface, the natural geographical location makes the fireworks show more dramatic.

Enoshima Iwaya Cave Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
The number 1 spiritual site in Enoshima
The Enoshima Iwaya Caves have been created by coastal erosion for eons of time. It consists of two caves: Daiichi-iwaya (first cave) of 152 meters and Daini-iwaya (second cave) of 56 meters in length. The caves had been closed for years but reopened in 1993 after the renovations of the facilities around the caves. Having been worshiped since ancient times the legends goes that Kukai (Kobo-Daishi, the founder of Shingon Buddhism) and Minamoto no Yoritomo who founded the Kamakura shogunate visited. The insides of these caves with illuminations and sound effects, stone statues and various exhibits tell us the history and culture of Enoshima Island. You can borrow candles inside the Daiichi cave (may not be available when the cave is too crowded) . From open space, stretching 128 meters in length, you can enjoy the vista of Mount Fuji stretching from Sagami Bay, Hakone and the Izu Peninsula. It is a 30-minute walk from ”Katase Enoshima” Station of the Odakyu Enoshima Line.

Enoshima Iwaya Cave
#japantrip This was an interesting find that I didn’t know about. It’s a really unique experience that I enjoyed. Some parts are dark so they let you borrow a light. Also be aware that some parts are low so you might have to squat down. There’s all sorts of artifacts to see inside so check it out if you’re in the area.Very fascinating experience, it makes planning a trip to Enoshima Island definitely recommended as it is the highlight of the island for sure. The cliffside infront of the cave alone is worth coming here. There are two caves, lined with history exhibitions, the mandatory shrines inside, one of which is a dragon that growls when you clap. In one cave you get a cute handheld lantern and in the other are beautiful lanterns. The path between the caves had a part with cute chimes.

Tsujido Seaside Park Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Tsujido Beach🫶🏻
#thingstodo My friends and I always go here when he wants to go surf. There seems to be a relatively large number of people as there is a large parking lot nearby, but compared to places like Kugenuma, it's still less crowded and the waves are nice. You can also enjoy barbecue and you can see the Mt. Fuji in the right area. There’s no entrance fee and you can go anywhere in that area.
#Beat the Heat!
The sea says Hi! This was taken in Tsujido Beach Resort! If you are looking for a place to surf. This will be the best destination! You can also see the Mt. Fuji as clear as sky! You can enjoy the beautiful scenery.
If you are from Ofuna, take the train until you you Tsujido Station and from there take a bus to Hamamiyama Bus Stop and 4 mins. walk you already reach your destination! Walking is also positive it is around 25 minutes.
Chigaya Bakery, Tsujido📍
This is a bakery shop in Tsujido🥯🫶🏼
Very welcoming home atmosphere, chill, and pretty small shop! Some breads are not included milk, butters like animal products which is my favorite part🥰😍 Everything is very delicious!
You can enjoy your tea time there with some breads!🤍 It takes about 20-30mins by walk from Tsujido st🚶♀️ I think you can take the bus as well:)
