Zhenhai Tower of Fuzhou City is located at the peak of Pingshan Mountain and one of the nine famous towers of China. Originally a sample for the "menlou" (gate towers) of various cities, it was later renamed Zhenhai Tower and is a part of Fuzhou Old City. It marks the north of the city as well as the entrance for ships entering at night. Zhenhai Tower has endured the vicissitudes of life through the years, having been damaged and rebuilt many times. The present reconstructed Zhenhai Tower consists of a base level, an elevated base and a two-story pavilion, where the base level contains an underground chamber, the elevated base and pavilion serve as exhibition halls, and the second story serves as a viewing and leisure hall.
