Alternatively, you can take a scenic boat ride across Lake Ashi and disembark at Moto-Hakone, from where it is a short walk to the shrine. During our travels to Hakone, we paid a visit to Hakone’s famous shrine. It is well known for its striking red Torii gate set into Lake Ashi. There was a long line of people waiting to take a picture with the gate. We ventured up a steep flight of stairs to the main shrine complex. At the entrance there was a dragon water fountain for visitors to cleanse their hands before entering, a Japanese ritual when entering a shrine. The compound was impressive and the area tranquil. In there we made wishes for the new year, bought good luck charms and had a walk around. Definitely a memory to keep for a long time. One of the wishes we made at the shrine was to one day be able to revisit Japan in spring to see the wonderful Sakura. I hope that will be made true! #2023travelwish

a fun day trip to Hakone where you find a lot eye catching huge red shrines along the way. when u walk from temple to waterside across the road, you will find a interesting huge shrine soaking its little foot into water. it's extra fascinating when the iconic tour boat gets into your pictures at the back. it is even nicer in rain with the hazy look. #hakone

Heiwa no Tori is situated in an utterly tranquil and beautiful location. To get there, I would suggest you to take the lake Ashi Pirate Ship cruise from Togendai-ko to Hakone macho-ko or Hakone Tozan Bus directly to Hakone machi-ko. The shrine is a 10 minute walk from the pier/bus station. It involves a gentle slope plus some steps. I was lucky as I didn’t need to wait a long time to take a photo of this famous tourist destination. I suggest that you visit on weekdays and holidays to avoid the line. Don’t forget to pray when you reach the stone! It doesn’t matter if you believe in someone or something or not. It’s truly a once in a lifetime experience. Some historical background about the shrine: This torii gate serves two purposes. First, this torii gate indicates "entrance" from the shore of Ashinko Lake to Hakone Shrine which sits 213 meters (700 feet) up on the hill behind the gate. This particular gate is unique in that there are not so many throughout all of Japan that have been built directly over the water. Second, this torii gate is named "Heiwa-no-Torii" (Gate of Peace), which was erected in 1951 to commemorate the Treaty of San Francisco where Japan concluded peace with 48 nations to formally end WWII. The "Heiwa-no-Torii" (Peace Gate), which leads up to Hakone Shrine tucked away in the mountainside above the lake, was erected in the water just off the shore of Ashinoko Lake. #fallingforfall Beautiful shrine near the lake, very easily accessible, by pirate ship, small cruise ship, by bus or car, depends which way you come from. Hotspot for beautiful nature and photography or just chilling with nature. Beautiful, large Shinto shrine set in a beautiful location in Hakone. The shrine is located in the mountains and overlooking the water, so the best of both worlds. So peaceful and beautiful. Definitely stop by if you're in the area. Be prepared to wait a while for a picture by the big Torii Gate. Highly recommended!! #japan #couplestrip

If you visit #japan, you should go to #hakone it’s only a short train journey away. you can spend 2-3 days and visit the Onsen, which are traditional Japanese bath houses which are a experience in themselves. You can then do a day tour which takes you to the open air art museum, you can go and see the volcano - where you can buy and eat black eggs!! take a boat across to see the #torigate and you even go up the volcano in a cable car. it’s a great day out and then I’d recommend relaxing in the #onsen if your comfortable enough. Once we finished from visiting beautiful Hakone, which in the winter is even more beautiful as it snows - so you can visit any season. Normally on weekends or public holidays, expect a crowd and everyone will patiently queue for they turn to take photos. During my trip, there 2 big group of tourists who were trying to take multiple angles and repeated shots of the same angle with different poses 🤦🏻‍♂️ not nice, finally the whole queue voiced their dissatisfaction as there is no temple staff to keep the queue moving. Hakone-jinja shrine dates back to the year 757. Many military commanders prayed at this shrine devotedly, which brought it fame throughout the country. Another group of worshippers were travelers, who regularly visited the Hakone area, and often came here to pray for a safe trip. Even today, the shrine boasts numerous visitors from various places, who have the chance to learn about the shrine's history at the shrine treasure house (homotsuden), or see the “red gate of peace” (heiwa no torii) standing proud and tall in Ashinoko Lake. Also, besides the monthly and seasonal festivals and celebrations, a special event, Ashinoko Summer Festival Week, is held every year from the end of July to the beginning of August, during which visitors get to observe a magnificent fireworks display with as many as 18,500 fireworks dancing in the night sky above Ashinoko Lake. Explore the outskirts of Tokyo and head to Hakone. Another area to view Mt. Fuji, unfortunately for us, it was too cloudy. Hakone Shrine was built in 757, at the foot of Hakone Mountain, on the shore of Lake Ashi. The shrine's Torien Gate is located along the shore of Lake Ashi and is clearly visible when you visit the lake. Built on the water's edge in order to pray for new ships to enter the water. Hakone Shrine was founded by Hannah Shinto on the Hakone Mountain, which has been a great sanctuary of mountain belief since ancient times. It was once believed by many military generals such as Yoritomo and Tokugawa Ieyasu. It is a shrine with history. Since ancient times, the Hakone Shrine has been honored as the famous shrine of the Kanto general town, and it is a very important god of luck in safety, wishful thinking, and luck. There are also many sacred shrines that are more than 800 years old, and the special natural monuments of the county level, Ji Shaluo Chunlin. When they boil eggs in the hot springs of Owakudani, they become coated with iron and turn black. When you boil eggs in the boiling hot spring pond, they get salted and cool down. 9-10. Mount View Hakone You can enjoy the hot springs without staying overnight. The price ranges from 2,000 to 4,000 yen for a 45-minute bath, depending on the hot spring. You can enjoy the hot springs during the day without needing to stay. It varies depending on the bath, but it's about 2,000-4,000 yen for 45 minutes.

#2024wish It was a nice walk around the area. There was a line to take a picture in front of the shrine, but you have to visit at the exact time of the day, otherwise the sun is behind you and it is difficult to get a nice/clear picture without you being a silhouette. This is definitely a must-see place if you're in Yokohama or Tokyo. I want to go back here with my friends again.
