The Tongxin Mosque is located in the south of Tongxin County, Wuzhong City. The county seat is not very big. It takes about 20 minutes to walk to the mosque in the city. The mosque was built in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1573-1619) and was renovated in the Qing Dynasty. It is one of the oldest and largest mosques in Ningxia. Founded at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, Zhu Yuanxuan in the Ming Dynasty recognized Hu Haihai and Changyuchun and other Hui generals from the Lama Temple to the mosque. The Chinese Workers and Peasants Red Army established the first ethnic minority autonomous government here: the Hui People's Autonomous Government in Yuhai County.
