The Haining Tide, also known as Qianjiang Tide, is a tidal wave at the mouth of the Qiantang River in Hangzhou Bay, Zhejiang Province. The tide is watched in Yanguan Town, Haining, 45 km northeast of Hangzhou. Every year on August 15th of the lunar calendar, it is the time when the Qianjiang Tide comes. The tide can reach several meters high. It comes like a sea of horses running with the waves beating the shore heavily. The scene is soul-stirring. Every year around August 18th of the lunar calendar, when the weather is warm and pleasant, visitors gather on the seawall of the Qiantang River to watch the spectacle.
