Himeji Castle is also known as White Egret Castle. It is located in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan; it is one of the three most famous castles in Japan, along with Kumamoto Castle and Matsumoto Castle. At Himeji Castle, there are dozens of ancient buildings with advanced defense systems and sophisticated defensive architechtural features. Many movies and television shows have been filmed here. In 1993, the United Nations Educational Science and Culture Organization listed Himeji Castle as a World Heritage Site; it is a good place to learn about Japanese feudal culture during the Shogun era.
