The Old Wanchai Post Office is located at the eastern junction of Wanchai Gorge Road and Queen's Avenue. It is the oldest existing post office building in Hong Kong. Founded between 1912 and 1913, it was officially opened to Wanchai Post Office in 1915. This simple pyramid top, curvilinear building, gables and gray sculptures are very distinctive. It is now used by the Environmental Protection Department as an environmental resource centre. In the interior, there are still special legacies such as counter, mailbox and stamp vending machine. On the wall, there are pictures of the old operation of Wanchai Post Office.
The old post office in Wanchai is a small white building with green windows and doors. It is built on a high platform and under a big tree. In the bustling Wanchai area, there is a little loneliness. Today, the old post office in Wanchai has been transformed into the Environmental Protection Department. It is free to open the door and visit it. However, there are no exhibits related to the environment, and more of them are the old appearance of some post offices. The transmitter, the telephone, the green mailbox, and a checkered envelope dispenser. There are probably only one or two staff on duty.
Very special. It looks like a prison in a foreign movie. There are many good restaurants in it.
It took a long time to confirm that the small building was the old Wanchai post office. Although the green doors and windows had the impression of the post office, they did not introduce the post office in half a word after half a day's reading at the door. It was the sign of the Environmental Protection Xuan. Pushing the door in is a great feeling. That big and tall counter, think when you were a child, you had to buy stamps on your feet when you sent letters. There are also red mailboxes in those compartments. How many books have been stored in the memory of those compartments. ________
This is the Post Museum. On the first floor, there are mainly exhibitions of Hong Kong Post History and commemorative stamps and souvenirs issued by the Post Office. The second floor is the place where parcels are mailed. It feels different from express delivery.
Old Wan Chai Post Office "old" has two meanings - "first, no longer engaged in postal business, old-fashioned mailboxes, stamp vending machines and so on are marked "for exhibition only"; second, "old" is relative to "new", the ongoing Wan Chai Post Office is located on the second floor of the next Hu Zhong Building.
