I have been watching the waterfall in the mountains for a long time, always fantasizing about being able to live in a place surrounded by mountains and rivers, as if it is a real paradise ^_^ In front of us in China, there is indeed such a place that can realize this wish. This is an ancient and pleasant border town that has experienced a thousand years of history, surrounded by water and the waterfall runs through the entire town. When night falls, the scattered lights are like a galaxy in the world, and the dreamy waterfall is even more colorful. This land once became famous because of a movie by famous director Xie Jin, and was renamed for this reason. This place is Furong Town in Xiangxi, Hunan, a severely underestimated niche attraction. Take advantage of the good season of autumn, why not pack up and set off! If you choose high-speed rail , you can get off at the "Furong Town" high-speed rail station, and then take a taxi for a few minutes to arrive, or drive to the "Furong Town Tourist Service Center" or "Furong Town Scenic Area Tianze Parking Lot" (the latter requires a ticket purchase first). The ticket price is 108 yuan/person, valid for 3 days, unlimited entry and exit. The viewing platform at night is a night view not to be missed. The lights start at 19:30, and you can check in with the same pose as Yang Mi. In terms of accommodation, the price of homestays in the peak season is slightly expensive, and the price of waterfall-viewing rooms is above 350 yuan; accommodation outside the scenic area is more affordable, and parking is also more convenient. In terms of food, there are all kinds of special Xiangxi pickles, Liu Xiaoqing's tofu, stir-fried bamboo shoots, hot and sour noodles, rice wine, osmanthus fish, bacon, etc. In addition, the directly operated Tufeng Miaoyun Boutique Shop in the scenic area (opposite the Furong Grand View at the entrance of the scenic area) provides special products with Xiangxi style, such as secret T-shirts, sunny and rainy umbrellas, silverware, dolls, etc.

📌 From Zhangjiajie (张家界) in Hunan, you can take a bus from the long distance bus station to just outside the town. This trip will take about 2 hours. From here, you can ask your hotel for help. Mine came to help me find a car which will take you to the town entrance for about 10RMB (you can try to negotiate), but it's only a 5min drive. Then you need to pay an entry fee into the town which will cover 3 days. ⛲️  It's a very small town and I walked around it in about 2-3 hours. There are some spas along the streets where you can get a foot massage while looking at the waterfall. In the evening, there are performances (1 free, 1 needs ticket) which are really cool to watch. And of course the waterfall! You can't come to Furongzhen and not see it at night time, it's spectacular! 🏠 The hotel I stayed at was called 江湖驿站（Jiang hu yi zhan). I found it through a friends' friend. Getting There - go to the bus terminal in Zhangjiajie. buy the ticket and wait for the next available bus. It costs around ¥30 and takes around 2 hours. Wear your seatbelt - it’s a bumpy ride. Sitting in the bus is a beautiful way to observe rural farms and natural China mountain scenery. Attractions - you are required to buy the ticket to enter the scenic town. There’s a waterfall you can walk under, you can ride the boat, you can find a restaurant with a beautiful view. There’s even an outdoor cinema. Choose the things you like. You can do everything in one or two days. Hotels - the hotels inside the tourist area are more expensive. If you don’t mind walking for 10-15 minutes you can get a pretty cheap room on the main road before entering the water villiage. If you prefer luxury - try to find the hotel with the good view. There is good availability and many places to choose from. Food & Restaurants - many restaurants here serve delicious Hunan dishes. Try to find the place to eat where you can see the waterfall and enjoy fresh fish from the river. Delicious! Shopping - there are lots of little shops to buy souvenirs, cold drinks or ice cream. A thousand-year-old ancient town on the waterfall, like a scene from a dream. Xiangxi has always given me the impression of mystery, and now it has an additional poetic charm. It turns out that a tourist destination that includes tradition and culture can also be so modern and romantic. I suggest other ancient towns roll up their sleeves and follow Furong Town's lead! Lesser-Known Travel Destination: Fenghuang Town in Xiangxi📍, so beautiful it's astonishing❗||This holiday, I didn't want to flock to the overcrowded tourist spots, so I chose a relaxed and pleasant lesser-known destination—Fenghuang Town in Xiangxi. You can get directly to Fenghuang Town Station from Changsha, and upon exiting the station, you can take a taxi straight to the ancient town or opt for self-driving. When I arrived, it was already evening, and the ancient town was very atmospheric with all the lights on. The town is situated above a waterfall, and it's very photogenic no matter where you snap a picture📷 The scenic area requires the purchase of a ticket, but it includes performances, and overall, it's quite nice. You can experience the Tujia ethnic culture. Besides Fenghuang Town, there are other attractions like the You River Gallery, Red Stone Forest, and Buniu Gate to explore. There's also a lot of delicious food, such as Tujia smoked meat pot, Osmanthus fish, rice tofu, Artemisia cakes, sweet rice wine, Xiangxi skewers, etc.—perfect for a weekend getaway to experience a different scene away from the city.

Upon my visit to Chadong, I saw contact numbers for carpooling to Furong Town on advertisement cards at the dock. So, after making a phone call to inquire, I took a carpool to Jishou for 50 yuan per person, and from Jishou to Furong Town for 40 yuan per person. This time it was worry-free, with carpooling for the entire journey, saving the hassle of finding transportation. About Furong Town Furong Town, originally named Wang Village, is an ancient town inhabited by the Tujia people, with a history of two thousand years. Located in Yongshun County within Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, this small town is surrounded by water on three sides and has a history of over two thousand years. In addition, the ancient architecture stone slab road from Tuwang Palace to Tuwang Bridge is recommended, as well as the stone slab street, which has a better night view and many clothing rental shops and travel photography services.
