An outlying island located in the east of Jeju, named after its shape like a lying cow, is an excellent place for leisure and vacation. There is the only coral sand beach in Korea, famous for its colorful and clear waters. There are representative scenery such as the whale cave on the east coast, the night sailing fish sail, and the white sand of the west coast, which are called the eight scenic spots of Udo. To visit Udo Island, you can drive by yourself, take a tour bus or ride a bicycle, and the cycle route of the tour bus is very popular.
From Udo Ferry Terminal, you can see many iconic lighthouses. However, the two red lighthouses (one flat top and one steeple) near Udo Island are the most beautiful. Especially this "flat-headed" red lighthouse above the white stone! Isn't it the one in Cha Inpyo's "Mokpo Port"? ! When the ferry starts, you can get close to this red lighthouse. It’s nice, don’t miss it~
I probably expected a lot from the reviews of Udo island. We took this hop on hop off pink bus from the pier and went around the island. We went down the first stop which I cannot remember the name- a lovely place actually. Then the bus went to the next stop which is a beach. We preferred to stop at the Coral beach- white beach but very rough on the feet because it is made of tiny corals/shells. All in all, we probably should have allotted more time (spent around 3-4hrs only) to explore the whole island but it was hard as people do not speak english.
it is so beautiful! My parents and I went there last year in June! We got suntan because of the strong sunshine! Better to prepare soft-shell
With a name meaning ‘Island of the reclining cow’, how can you say no to Udo Island?! Since 2007 the local authorities have been steadily establishing an interconnecting network of walking trails around the perimeter of Jeju Island, knowns as the ‘Jeju Olle’. One of them actually lies on Udo Island, just off the eastern tip of Jeju Island. You'll need to take the ferry to get there, but it goes plenty of times during the day and is a lot of fun. On the island there are many forms of transport you can choose, from bikes, to scooters, to electric vehicles, and more! The beaches are amazing, and there are some very photogenic cliffs, ruins and other things to keep the photographers out there very happy! It was a great day and was actually one of the best experiences of our entire South Korean holiday. Yes, there are a lot of other locals and tourists sharing the island with you, but the landscape and the food more than make up for it!
Udo doesn't look or feel like anywhere else in Korea. The landscape is totally unique - rolling lush green hills. There are lovely little B&B's all over the place (called pensions in Korea) and the people are so incredibly nice. You can navigate most of the island by bike or on foot. I recommend staying at least two days so that you have time to really explore. Also be aware the ferry simply won't run if it's too windy or the water is too rough.
The beautiful island of SouthKorea, the Udo. Udo to go on a boat in the Jeju island. Especially, jejuolle is recommended of Udo in Jeju island.
