Mendenhall Glacier Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Juneau and Mendenhall Glacier
Juneau is the capital of Alaska and a bigger city in the southern part of the state. We arrived at the cruise ship terminal and took a short walk to the downtown Transit Center bus station and hopped on a bus towards Mendenhall Glacier. The glaciers are always changing and shifting (now at a faster pace due to climate change). The park surrounding Mendenhall has a waterfall (Nugget Falls) and hiking trails as well. We took the same bus back downtown and walked around the city, grabbed some food to warm us up from the cold rain.

The Icy Glaciers Of Juneau
I was lucky enough to visit Alaska this year, and fly on top of the Mendenhall Glacier. We spent 2 hours on top of the glacier and did the trekking. The experience was awesome! After that, we had a nice lunch at the Creek Salmon Bake and did gold panning. It's really nice to see this part of the world.
Alaska State Museum Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Some of my favorite moments from sheldonchalet:
1. Goofing around on the safety net for the 🚁 pad. I thought it looked like those overwater bungalow hammocks you always see photos of… but a little chillier lol.
2. It’s not dark for very long right now in Alaska, but when it is, it’s magic. ✨
3. My first time seeing the Northern Lights with my bare eyes. They were dancing! 💚
4. Sunrise lighting up Denali. I loved the snow blowing off the top. 🏔️
5. Warming up in the sauna after my sun bathing shenanigans. 😎
6. One of my favorite pastimes at the chalet was watching the bush planes fly through the mountains. 🛩️
7. Saying goodby before flying back to Talkeetna. 🌞
8. The scale out in the Alaska Range is unreal. And I only saw a small sliver! Definitely hope to make it back someday. cr:jess.wandering Contact us for removal
Sealaska Heritage - Walter Soboleff Building Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Sealaska Heritage Institute
Dedicated to the indigenous tribes of Alaska, the Sealaska Heritage Institute plays an important role in preserving the art, history, folklore and culture of the first groups to settle in the state.
Calling itself “a steward of our past and a catalyst for our future,” the Institute is home to numerous relics and artifacts from long-ago ways of life.
You can see tools from hundreds of years ago, for example, and furs and hunting weapons that are still in use today.
Another feature of note is the extensive collection of Native artwork from both past and present creators.
If that wasn’t reason enough to visit, a portion of your admission will go to projects within the Native community, including language revitalization and cultural awareness campaigns.
Sealaska Heritage Institute is one of the major places of interest for folks who are interested in the indigenous tribes of the U.S. and Canada.
If you want to know more about the people who worked the land before any Europeans did, you won’t want to miss a trip to the Institute.

Tordrillo Mountains Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Tordrillo Mountain Lodge: Judd Lake, Ala
It's hard to get more remote than an Alaskan mountain lodge that requires arriving by float plane. Only a 45-minute flight from Anchorage, Tordrillo Mountain Lodge draws adventurous travelers. During winter you can try heli-skiing, while summer is a prime time for heli-hiking, heli-fishing and heli-biking. Book a private cabin for even more seclusion.

Tongass National Forest Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Tongass National Forest
With its lush forests, shimmering glaciers and crystalline lakes, Alaska is one of the most beautiful places to travel in the US.
Nowhere is this more apparent than Tongass National Forest.
Tongass National Forest is the largest forest in the entire country; it spans a staggering 16.7 million acres and covers a large swath of southeastern Alaska.
While most of it’s rain forest, you can also find dry mountainous regions as well as water-dominated areas with lots of glaciers and fjords.
Visitors can go hiking, fishing, kayaking, mountaineering and more.
Wildlife observation will cough up everything from brown bears to white mountain goats.
There are a number of cabins dotting the lakes and rivers if you want rustic-style accommodations; otherwise, camping is common.
Unique features of the forest include waterfalls, old mining sites and a special “upside-down garden” where flower towers have their roots on top.
Maybe you’re a family looking to disconnect from phones and video games for awhile.
Maybe you love nature photography and are always on a quest for the next amazing shot.
Whatever your reasons for seeking outdoor wonders, you can find them at Tongass National Forest.
