About Jurong

Jurong City is located in the southern part of Jiangsu Province, closely adjacent to Nanjing It is the southeast gateway of Nanjing. Jurong has a history of two thousand years. The southeastern part of the city is home to the famous Taoist holy land of Maoshan Mountain. In the northwest of the city, visitors will find the Chinese Buddhist holy place Baohua Mountain. In addition to religious landscapes, there are also scenic spots such as the Southern Dynasties Bixie Stone Carvings and the Chishan Lake National Wetland Park.

Mao Mountain is where the Shangqing School (or Supreme Clarity movement) of Taoism originated, and the Taoists of Mao Mountain are known throughout China. Historic temples dot the mountain, though most of the ones you see today are modern reconstructions following successive wars fought in the area. The most famous of the temples are known together as “the monasteries of Mao Mountain”: Jiuxiao Wanfu Gong (“Myriad Blessings Palace of the Nine Heavens”) and Yuanfu Wanning Gong. The three peaks of Mao Mountain standing in a row are a splendid sight. From south to north, they include Elder Mao Peak, Second Mao Peak, and Third Mao Peak.

Qianhua Ancient Village is an imitation Ming- and Qing-style village at the foot of Baohua Mountain in Jurong. The ancient villages show visitors the life of the local residents during the Kangxi and Qianlong's reigns about 300 years ago. Exhibits here include dioramas and weaving looms, giving visitors a sensation as if they have stepped back in time. Walking along the river, the stilted houses on both banks are arranged next to each other, a beautiful and peaceful sight against the blue sky and white clouds.
