Kamakura Hasedera Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Hasedera Temple is a typical Japanese rock garden. This temple is well-known for its statutes of Bodhisattva. A standing figure of Bodhisattva with 11 faces can be found here. This is also the largest wooden figure of Bodhisattva in Japan. Standing on the small platform, you can enjoy an uninterrupted view of the local private houses. The temple has its face to the ocean and back to the mountain, providing you with a lovely view. Of course, this is also a good place to admire sakura and maple leaves.
Breathtaking cherry blossom views
Spring has come with these fully bloomed cherry blossoms 🌸. This is definitely one of the best moments in Japan which people should not miss. This moment usually lasts only for a week but don’t worry. As you go north to chase fully bloomed cherry blossoms, you can catch them sooner or later👍

It is a grand piece of Japanese history and decorative to the eye. It is top of the list for me within Kamakura. Insider tip is to walk up around the back and also check out the views of the beach and Mt Fuji in the background. Inside is interesting and you can see artwork of heaven and hell on each wall as well statues and informative religious items. The architecture of the temples is stunning. The ponds and gardens attract some beautiful wildlife including some very large red and blue dragonflies as well as cicadas. The viewing platform has spectacular views across Kamakura. There is also a cave temple that was really interesting. The overall feeling of calm and tranquility exudes throughout the temple complex. Definitely worth a visit if in Kamakura or Tokyo.

Kamakura Hasedera
#japantrip Incredible temple, probably the most exciting one within an hour of travel from Tokyo, it's recommened to plan a trip here. The grounds are vast but on a hill side with mans stairs. The gardens are very nice, there's an interesting cave and collections of stone statues, and the design of the temple buildings are simply breathtaking. You can also get a great view of the bay. This temple truly ignited my fascination with Kamakura, I would say it it the most essential place to visit here and makes for a well rounded experience.

slam dunk train coming
#tokyo
Having watched the anime "Slam Dunk" when we were just children, we were thrilled to be able to witness the rail crossing at Kokomae Station used in the introduction before each episode.
We were a bit surprised that this rail crossing was crowded when we reached. Didn't know that it was so popular and that many fans just wanted to experience this. but It was really surreal when we saw the train go by, with the alarm siren from the signal.
The local train runs every 12 minutes along the coastline, which makes this the perfect spot for railway enthusiasts to train-watch.
Kamakura Kokomae Station is well-known for Slamdunk, so a long queue can be seen in the front. Komachi Dori is a renowned snack street, embracing all kinds of souvenirs and gift stores. You can go around. Kanagawa abounds with precious stones. The lighthouse will light up at 7:30 every night. Reaching the lighthouse you can overlook romantic night scene. Strongly recommend steamed bun and Island Spa.

Kamakura City and The Great Buddha of Kamakura: Treasures of History and Symbols of Culture
Kamakura City, located in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, is a city full of historical and cultural heritage. As the capital of the ancient Kamakura Shogunate, it preserves a wealth of historical and cultural heritage, the most famous of which is the Great Buddha of Kamakura.
The Great Buddha of Kamakura is a 13.3-meter-high bronze Buddha statue, known as the largest wooden Buddha statue in Japan. This Buddha statue is located in the Daibutsu-den in Kamakura City and is one of the symbols of Zen Buddhism in Japan. The facial expression of the Buddha is kind and solemn, showing the wisdom and compassion of Buddhism.
The history of the Great Buddha of Kamakura can be traced back to the 7th century AD and is a gem of Japanese Buddhist culture at that time. This Buddha statue has survived many wars and earthquakes, but it has always stood firm, witnessing the historical changes of Kamakura City. Today, the Great Buddha of Kamakura has become one of Japan's important cultural heritages, attracting countless tourists to visit.
In addition to the Great Buddha, Kamakura City also has many other cultural heritages and attractions. For example, ancient temples and shrines, exquisite traditional buildings, beautiful coastal scenery, etc., all provide tourists with a rich travel experience.
I've seen people uploading photos on the great Buddha in Kamakura a long time before I finally had the chance to visit it. With its long history, it's really surprising how well-maintain it was. so I finally ventured into Kamakura see it with my own eyes. My first impression of it was Wow! It's really big! It looks quite sturdy, and of course it looks very good at its age. I didn't enter the Buddha, but just the look of it from the outside is quite impressive already.
The shop in the temple sell goodies, cookies, snacks that features the Great Buddha too. Not to forget, all the good luck charms/Omamori you could get as souvenirs for friends and relatives. I'm not sure how many of the tourists who visited the place felt this way, but I felt extremely peaceful while I'm at the temple

Kotoku-in
#japantrip This is the famous "sitting buddha" that can be found here in Kanagawa. It is called "The Great Buddha Kamakura" consideres as a national treasure. You can see it in Kotoku-in. Many tourists are coming over especially during the spring season cause we can also see some cherry blossom trees in full-bloom.Must visit place if you come Kamakura as this is the heritage site.
Entrance fee is 300 yen per person
Worth to go inside the Buddha to see the interior design
On a cloudy day in Kamakura, Mount Fuji is not visible, but it's still worth a visit
The sea, the tram, and the temples are the impressions Kamakura left on me.
During my three days in Tokyo, I picked the middle day to visit the nearby Kamakura, hoping to catch a glimpse of the famous Mount Fuji.
Unfortunately, luck was not on my side, and the cloudy weather meant that Mount Fuji would probably be obscured by clouds. However, since I had already planned this, I might as well go on a cloudy day to see what unique experiences might await.
🚃Transportation: At Shinjuku Station, I bought a one-day pass for the Shinjuku to Fujisawa Station round trip, which also includes the Kamakura seaside tram. The price is only 1640 yen, which is very economical.
It takes about an hour to reach Fujisawa Station, and after getting off and transferring, I arrived at Enoshima.
Enoshima: A lively seaside island, where Hirokazu Koreeda's 'Our Little Sister' was filmed. There is a small temple at the top of the hill with a lot of incense burning, offering a panoramic view of the entire island and the bridge.
Then I returned to the tram station and took the tram to Hase-dera, which was the stop I was most looking forward to on this trip.
Hase-dera: The entrance ticket 🎫 is probably 300 yen, which is very cheap. The small Buddha statues inside the temple are very cute, as if entering a world of deities.
I also happened to encounter the maple leaves turning red, adding even more Zen to the atmosphere.
Afterward, I went to the landmark of Kamakura—the Great Buddha of Kamakura.
🎫The worship fee is 200 yen.
The huge Buddha statue overlooks the visitors, creating a strong visual impact.
The ginkgo forest behind the courtyard is also very picturesque.
After coming out, I slowly strolled through the small town, walking on the tram tracks, walking by the sea, until I reached Shichirigahama, where I saw the sunset's Tyndall effect. Although I couldn't see Mount Fuji on a cloudy day, I saw people fishing by the sea and sat quietly for a long time.
Finally, I went to the famous Kamakura High School Mae, took some photos of the green tram 'racing' by the sea, and then I also took the tram back to Tokyo.
From the leisurely seaside town back to the bustling, fast-paced Tokyo.

How does the Kamakura pilgrimage encounter a super-tour group?
A perfect Kamakura tour You have to find a sunny day, start early, come to the train crossing that the team has not yet arrived, it is best to rainy season, look at the hydrangea by the way, how hard it is Put it together, Kamakura is a kind of sentiment, but don't overestimate it, with a normal heart to recall the film that brought us a lot of emotion. However, Jiangdian is really fascinating. If you come here, you dont want to be empty-handed, but you can change your perspective.
Recommend two methods, one is to buy a ticket to go back and forth, jump off the station as you like, walk out of the platform on the road to find a cute figure of Xiaojiangdian. Another one is the secret coffee shop [Luonto], which is located at the Hakaya Station. You can see it when you get off the bus.
One of the more famous stations called "Jiangzhidian" to Kamakura is called - Kamakura University. The reason why it is famous here is that for many uncles of the 80s, it is because of a cartoon "slam dunk", the intersection of Sakuragi and Haruko, for the direct access to the power of the river to the "Kangcang University Front Station" along the only The road came out of the intersection. When you get off the bus, you can see the intersection where Sakuragi and Haruko meet, and the memories suddenly come to mind. Its really the same. A lot of people are taking photos there. The road next to it is where Ryuukawa often rides, and its full of memories. The coastal scenery is particularly good, but we have heavy rain on the day, but there are still many people coming here to take pictures. Take a photo here and take a look at Kamakura University.
How to shoot a Japanese blockbuster for a child, that is to go to Kamakura! Take your child to Japan, you may wish to go to Kamakura. There are more than slam dunks here, there are seas, fireworks, and all the scenery seems to bring a natural Japanese filter.
From Tokyo, the subway is very convenient. You can choose JR or Odakyu Electric Railway. In the Kamakura area, if you only want to go to Enoshima, the Odakyu Electric Railway has a one-day pass for Enoshima, which sells for 1970 yen. You can take a trip to the Odakyu regular train between Shinjuku and Fujisawa in one day, and take the Odakyu regular train between Fujisawa and Katsura-no-Mori. This ticket also includes Edo Island 1st Passport, which offers free access to Enoshima Prospect Lights, Enoshima Rock House and Enoshima Escalator. However, it should be noted that the Enoshima Day 1 holiday ticket cannot be used by Jiang Zhidian. The one-day coupon of Enoji Electric can be purchased at Kamakura Station or Fujisawa Station. The fare is 650 yen, and you can take the Enoshima sightseeing train without restrictions within one day.
We stayed at the Park Hotel, some distance from Jiangdian, but the room was not bad.
, you can meet the sea at any time, you can also put fireworks at the seaside in the evening, like the Haijie Diary.
Although the beach is much worse than many islands, the children are still very happy.
Take out the camera and take a shot, and immediately have a child's Japanese blockbuster.
From Tokyo to Kamakura, from bustling to quaint, from the tall buildings falling into the fresh coast, but an hour away. Kamakura is to follow the scene of the "Slam Dunk" in the past, the Kamakura college in the memory of youth.
The former station of Kamakura University in Japan, contains the youth of many people. As the location of the famous anime "Slam Dunk" in reality, Sakuragi Flower Road greets Haruko for the first time. When the small train passed the intersection of the traffic lights, it seemed to be back in the comics. Without more words, it stood at the crossroads and quietly listened to "until the end of the world".
You can walk to Enoshima along the waterfront next to the tram. The former Enoshima only appeared when the tide ebbed. It is said that in April 552, a large amount of sand poured out from the seabed. After 21 days of baptism, the sand island was formed. The evening island scenery is very beautiful. Its also very good to watch the sunset here. Arriving at the top of the mountain, you can overlook the entire Kamakura scene, and the lights of the family and the sea complement each other.

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu is a breathtaking site to behold during Sakura blossom season. With over 1,000 sakura trees, the shrine is transformed into a sea of white flowers from late March to early April. The blooming sakura trees serve as a beautiful backdrop to the many traditional buildings and structures in the shrine complex, creating a stunning contrast between the natural beauty of the sakura and the historical architecture of the shrine.
Visitors can enjoy strolling through the various paths and trails within the shrine complex, taking in the incredible sight of the flower petals fluttering down like snowflakes. The raised platform in front of the main hall is especially popular for sakura viewing, as it offers a panoramic view of the shrine and the surrounding area, all of which are covered in beautiful pink cherry petals. In the evening, the cherry blossom trees are lit up with lanterns, creating a magical and romantic atmosphere.
Overall, the Sakura blossom season at Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu is a must-see for anyone visiting Kamakura.
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu is a shrine only 10-15 minutes walk from Kamakura Station. The shrine has a huge estate with lots to observe and entertain. Impressive, historic, inspiring and photographic Shrine and grounds. Very well preserved Temple, recommended if you are visiting the Kamakura area. You should spend time walking through them as well as going up the stairs to the main shrine building. Depending upon the season, there will be different flowers blooming, including in the ponds and on the island. There are also several other smaller shrines in the grounds that are also worth a look. Regardless the ages, there are things to do. There are worshippers, tourists, kindergarten students, etc. Of course, there are many places to visit in Kamakura.

Spring | Leisurely stroll in Kamakura, admiring the flowers and scenery, and gazing at Mount Fuji
🌟 Kamakura, you sure know how to enjoy yourself!
❤ When it comes to Kamakura in Kanagawa, Japan, many people born in the 80s and 90s think first of the railway crossing in front of Kamakura Koukou, having passed it countless times. Each time they pass by, they recall the familiar and thrilling 'I Want to Shout Out that I Like You'.
👍 Kamakura is a tourist city in Kanagawa. Although it is not large in size, it is bustling with tourists year-round, with crowds of people in every season. Located on the coast, Kamakura also offers distant views of Mount Fuji, and these various factors make it the second most prominent destination in the Kanto region after Tokyo.
🧳 How to enjoy Kamakura:
✅ The Great Buddha of Kamakura, built in the 13th century, is located in Kotoku-in and is a landmark of Kamakura. Made of bronze, it is the second largest seated Buddha statue in Japan.
✅ Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, located in the central area of Kamakura, has developed the city around the Hachimangu shrine. Countless events are held here each year, from festivals to exhibitions, to personal weddings, with a constant stream of visitors. From spring cherry blossoms to summer hydrangeas, to autumn maple leaves, this place is always a favorite for those who enjoy scenery.
✅ Hase-dera, known for its beautiful gardens, is close to the Great Buddha of Kamakura, faces the sea, and offers enchanting views. A hydrangea path makes it a must-visit spot for flower enthusiasts in summer. Other temples like Engaku-ji, Jochi-ji, Kencho-ji, and the Zeniarai Benzaiten Ugafuku Shrine, collectively known as the 'Five Mountains of Kamakura', provide a full day's worth of leisurely exploration.
✅ Komachi Street, Kamakura's famous shopping street, satisfies all needs from the first cup of coffee in the morning to a late-night snack before bed, offering a complete experience of dining, shopping, and entertainment.
✅ Enoshima and the Shonan coast are part of Kamakura's coastline, attracting surfers year-round to enjoy the thrill of the sea. With abundant sunshine in summer, many restaurants and cafes open here, making the beach a great place for leisure and entertainment. Stepping onto Enoshima, you reach a prime spot for viewing Mount Fuji, where you can rest and dine at the observatory while admiring the beauty of Mount Fuji (with a bit of luck).
The iconic shrine in Kamakura
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu (鶴岡八幡宮, Tsurugaoka Hachimangū) is Kamakura's most important shrine. And it is a 1000-year old shrine. The shrine is dedicated to Hachiman, the patron god of the Minamoto family and of the samurai in general.
The shrine is reached via a long, wide approach that leads from Kamakura's waterfront through the entire city center, with multiple torii gates along the way. The main hall (Hongu or Jogu) stands on a terrace at the top of a wide stairway. The main hall includes a small museum, which displays various treasures owned by the shrine, such as swords, masks and documents.
In 2024, I want to go to this shrine again.
