Death Railway in Kachanburi! 🛤️😲
Death Railway is considered as one of the most visited destinations in Kanchanaburi for both local and foreign travellers. I have seen pictures of this place on facebook and instagram and I wanted so badly to see this place in person and I finally did! Went to see this historical site in Kanchanaburi called Death Railway. As far as I recall, the journey takes about 2 hours one way then another two going back from Nam Namtok. The tickets are available at the station 15 minutes before it arrives, however for our tickets we just paid on board a train. Such a memorable experience I had!

Our first trip in 2023, and our first destination is Kanchanaburi, Thailand. Kanchanaburi is a town in western Thailand about 3-4 hours from Bangkok.
Kanchanaburi has many historical sites to visit, including the famous Death Railway and Erawan Falls, etc. and the newest attraction, Maple Gardens. We were amazed by how large these bottle gourds are.
The admission fee is 120 Thb per person. You can enjoy the beautiful flowers and Longgan trees, you can also eat longgan inside for free! However, you are not permitted to bring the longan outside, just eat it there!😁🫰💕 #tripblazers

The Death Railway Bridge
The Death Railway Bridge, also known as the "Bridge on the River Kwai" after the popular film of the same name, is Kanchanaburi's most well-known historical site. During WWII, it was built with the help of British, Dutch, and American prisoners of war.
The bridge was part of the Thai-Burmese "Death Railway," so named because so many men perished while it was being built. The railway would have helped supply supplies to Japanese troops battling the British in adjacent Burma, therefore development was overseen by Japanese forces.
Today, you can stroll or take a train across this bridge, which still has portions of the original framework. Surrounding the location are market stalls selling food and goods.

Bridge over River Kwai
The bridge over river Kwai is doable on a day trip from.Bangkok and we actually rented a car from Bangkok. This was our 2ns last stop after visited Maeklong railway market and Damnoen Saduak market in the Morning.
We don't stay long at the floating market as we been here bedore 18 years ago. we knew the taxi scam especially tjose getting cheap taxi from Bangkok but ended in one of the floating market pier and forced to pay ridicolous price for a long tail boat to the market #riverkwaibridge #thaiand #kanchanaburi
Death Railway Bridge during Sunset
#bucketlistreboot
If you happen to be in Thailand definitely check out the Rover Kwai Bridge. From Bangkok it takes only 3 hours by bus to get there and the bus only costs 160 thai baht per person. It is a great experience to walk on the river kwai bridge and learn about the history. Many prisoners of the Japanese army died when working on the Death railway and this Bridge. The Japanese army was trying to gain control over British controlled burma. Thats why they wanted to build a railroad all the way from Japan to Burma which is called Myanmar.
Another great experience is to watch the train pass by while being on the bridge
Death Railway River Kwai Bridge
Getting There - It takes around 3 hours to get to Kanchanaburi from Bangkok by bus or car. If you take the popular Train route it can take up to 4 hours

Hotels - There are many hotels in this area
Food & Restaurants - There are many shopping vendors and street vendors next to the railway
Shopping - You can buy lots of souvenirs next to the railway.

Military cemetery for solders and prisoners
this is one of the must visit places in Kanchanaburi. this is the last resting place the cemetery for 7000 Dutch and other commonwealth solders including Australian and British prisoners of war while constructing the Burma railway! it is located really close to the railway station, and as our first destination once we got off our bus. the history here is really impressive, and it is one of few cemeteries that were built for foreign soldiers. coming here and walking through the graveyards, it really gives me a mix feeling, and I can feel the horror of the wars.
I highly recommend #tripblazers #bucketlistreboot #mytripvlog this place to everyone who comes to this beautiful town

History to visit
The Thailand-Burma Railway Centre's carefully-curated exhibits provide an excellent overview of the railway's history as well as the horrific conditions endured by the POWs and forced laborers who built it.
From the Japanese invasion through the lives of some of the survivors after the war, poignant human tales, images, artifacts, and videos highlight this grim chapter of history. After you've seen all of the museum displays, take a stroll across the street to the well-kept Kanchanaburi War Cemetery.

War Museum Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
The JEATH War Museum
My last trip to Kanchanaburi was a long time ago. This trip to Bangkok, I had some extra time and I signed up for a day tour to revisit Kanchanaburi. When you are here at Kanchanaburi, you will learn about their history and the best way is to visit the JEATH Museum. There is another name for Kanchanaburi and it is called The Death Railway. JEATH is the abbreviation for the countries involved. I will let you discover it for yourself. I will also warn you on the ticket prices. No, they are not expensive. They just have 2 pricing systems which are local pricing and foreigner pricing. So there is no need to kick up a fuss when you think you have been shortchanged.

Location: Kanchanaburi

Bridge of River Kwai
This is the bridge build by POWs, part of the bridge was also being destroyed by the allied forces. The Japanese placed the allied POWs on this bridge thinking that the Allied forces will not bombed the bridge but they are wrong. This bridge is also next to Jeath Museum where you will get to know more.
