Amalienborg Palace is the place where the Danish royal family lived and the royal palace. When Christian VII ruled in 1794, a fire broke out in Christiansburg, causing members of the royal family to migrate to Amerinburg for refuge. Subsequently, Frederick V decided to build this into a Rococo-style building. To commemorate the king, people built the equestrian statue of Frederick V, which stands in the center of the octagonal square of the palace.

If you love military history, then you can’t miss the Kastellet in Copenhagen. Your trip to the star-shaped fortress lets you experience history, as the star-shaped fortress is very similar to its original construction in the 1660s, when it helped Denmark fight wars against Sweden. As you walk through the fortress, you appreciate the restoration work done by the A.P. Miller company and marvel at all the bastions, all of which you can walk through; you can look in all 8 of the buildings inside. You probably see the windmill first as you approach Kastellet, but you enter through the King’s Gate (Kongeporten), which was built in 1663. Next you see the state prison and a church, Kastelkirken. Regardless of the season, you are certain to enjoy walking through Kastellet, learning about its history, and enjoying the view.

Denmark’s three major government powers reside in this Copenhagen palace. Up until 1794, it was the resident of the country’s monarchs. Though many different structures have sat on this one site, the complex has remnants of its long history scattered throughout it dating as far back as more than 800 years. On a guided tour, see the Royal Reception Area, the Great Hall and Queen’s Tapestries, the parliament, Theatre Museum, and even the subterranean ruins of Bishop Absalon's castle from 1167.
