The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia was officially opened on 12 December 1998.The museum is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s tourist belt amidst the lush greenery of Perdana Botanical Gardens and within walking distance to the National Mosque, Bird Park and National Planetarium.
The museum consists of twelve gallery spaces, spread over two levels. Level one contains galleries devoted to Architecture, Qur’an and other Manuscripts, and one each for the art of India, China and the Malay Peninsula. Level two houses galleries devoted to Arms & Armor, Textiles, Jewelry and Coins, with the remaining three galleries consisting of art works categorized by their materials- Metal, Wood and Ceramics. The museum is also known for their collection of ancient Islamic glassware. The museum also houses educational, research, and extensive conservation facilities. One of the most famous permanent exhibitions is a faithfully restored and complete early-nineteenth century "OttomanRoom" dating back to the 19th Century. Conservators used data born out of the restoration of this room to collaborate frequently with international colleagues, add to the wider conversation about conserving Islamic vernacular architecture, and to draw attention to the effects on “painted woods in tropical climates such as Southeast Asia.
The Islamic Arts Museum in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia is a great museum to learn about the Islamic arts. The museum is quite large and holds a large number of pieces . There are many writings , Korans and pottery pieces . The museum has a fee for the entry but does include a free drink in the restaurant . The restaurant is not bad but the service is very very poor. The museum is about 400 meters from the entrance of the National Mosque of Malaysia. you can visited both during the same time period.
Enjoyed my time here! Nothing to complain about but was a bit shocked at the price. Exhibitions were well explained. So much to learn about and quite frankly the best museum in KL. The building itself is very modern and well maintained
One of a kind. Gorgeous museum telling the history and traditions of Islam you will not see in any other country. Extremely rich in exhibits. It is located very close to the National Mosque, so it's comfortable to visit both at the same time.
