Kanas is Mongolian, meaning "beautiful and mysterious lake". Kanas Lake is located in the north of Burqin County, Altai District, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The lake water comes from the glacier meltwater and local precipitation of Kuitun, Youyifeng and other mountains. The lake has an altitude of 1374 meters, an area of 45.73㎞ 2, the deepest height of the lake is 1181.5 meters, the lake depth is 188.5 meters, and the water storage is 53.8 billion cubic meters. The deepest hail lake in China is an alpine lake and inland freshwater lake located in the dense forests of Altai Mountains.
