The Museu Nacional do Azulejo in Lisbon is perhaps Portugal's most important and distinct museum. Located in the 500 year old Monastery of the Mother of God, the museum's mission is simply "to collect, preserve, study and disseminate" the evolution and history of ceramics and tiles in Portugal. The aim of the museum is to display the greatness of Portuguese tile. With it's intricate and beautiful mosaic works, a quaint cafe, and national cultural artifacts, the Museu Nacional do Azulejo is a great destination for visitors and tourists.
