Don't be turned off by the fact this place is a little whole in the wall in a strip mall. That's TOTALLY normal for Los Angeles :) I was surprised at how cute the interior was considering the outside...but I really shouldn't be at this point considering I've lived in LA 3 years but still... We were quickly and enthusiastically greeted upon walking in and were told to sit wherever. We didn't have to wait long to order drinks and were given ample time to look at the menu before another server came over to take our order. She had a little difficulty understanding my request of what she recommended but two other employees quickly jumped in and both recommended the slow roasted pork. Done. My husband got the Cubano with beans and rice for a side and we ordered the Tostones to share. ALL OF IT WAS AMAZING. I couldn't scarf down my pork order fast enough...combined with the potato with garlic sauce (that stuff will leave your mouth garlicky but is totally worth it)...seriously I had NO complaints. None. It was all delicious and is now a new go-to on our places to eat at. I am hoping this experience wasn't a fluke and we continue to be pleased time and time again :) Go there.
While visiting/vacationing in the Los Angeles, CA, we went searching for a different variety of food for dinner, other than the typical Mexican and Chinese food in our area. Just by chance we found El Cochinito, we were glad we did! This little restaurant is tucked away in a small strip of stores. My husband had the shredded beef stew, rice and black beans. Our daughter had the garlic shrimp with beans and rice and the chicken soup. I had the Cuban sandwich and sweet plantains. Our daughter had a friend with her, she too ordered the chicken soup and a side of rice. The girls were surprised at how good the soup was with pieces of chicken, slices of corn on the cob, and other veggies. My husband's stew had a variety of peppers, onions, peas and tomatoes. The garlic shrimp was seasoned very well and shrimp were plenty full and big. The Cuban sandwich was delicious! Had a Cuban in port o Rico a few years ago, but this one had it beat!! The plantains were so sweet and grilled to perfection! We understand how it was voted one of LA'S best little places to eat. If in the Sunset Blvd area, look for this place, you won't be disappointed!
Ask for the Vaca Frita....it's not on the menu and they don't make it everyday....but when they do it's definitely the dish to get!
plantains were good, smoothie really tasty, saltado chicken wasn't good
Food: very good. Service: very poor.... To bad that the bad service ruined my experience.
Lechon asado is Nice and the Service is great
Try the Grilled Chicken Breast!
The best thing is the lechon
For a LA Cuban spot it's good! I only wish that the Cafe was done the Old School way, allow the milk to thicken in the Pot and then Poured into coffee. Other wise I really enjoy it.
The only Cuban place I'll eat at in LA. I'm from Miami, so my standards for Cuban food are high.
