About Macheng

Macheng is located in northeast Hubei Province, to the north of Huanggang City, on the north shore of the Yangtze River in the southern foothills of the central Dabie Mountains. It is where the three provinces of Hubei, Henan, and Anhui meet. Macheng has a long history and is famous as a base of the Revolution, where the 4th Red Army and 28th Red Army were organized. One of Macheng's outstandingly beautiful scenic spots, Guifeng (“Turtle Peak”) Mountain is covered by ancient rhododendrons that make for a majestic sight that has been called “the largest area of ancient rhododendrons (Rhododendron simsii) in China.”

Wunao Mountain Forest Park is about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) northwest of the city. In 1992, it was given the approval of the former Ministry of Forestry. The park is 95% covered by forest and rich cultural landscapes. Mountains, water and temples abound, unique. There is an abundance of things to do for tourists. The Emperor Temple and Fahua Temple are the centers of Taoism and Buddhism in Macheng. Baiyun Terrace, Magu Fairy Tale and Fengling Chaoyun are listed on the three terraces and eight scenic spots in Macheng.

Located about thirty kilometers east of Macheng County, Turtle Peak Mountain is comprised of nine peaks and is shaped like a giant turtle raising its head and tail. Its main peak is called Mazhuang. Turtle Peak Mountain is a beautiful and magnificent tourist mecca, with unique rocks and ancient trees everywhere. It is a famous scenic spot in Eastern Hubei. There are more than thirty places of interest in the scenic area including Nengren Temple, Huazhu Temple and Niangniang Tomb. There is a rich cultural history in the Turtle Peak Mountain area. The First Emperor of Tang Dynasty Li Shimin and the master literati Cao Cao both visited the area.

Tongjianchong Waterfalls Scenic Area is situated within Tugang Town, Macheng, Hubei. It is also called Longtan Valley because according to legend, dragons lived in the Qikou Pond in the valley. The area is beautiful, with clear water and many species of plants. There are dozens of waterfalls. It is a natural ecological scenic area themed around valley and waterfall sightseeing.
