Shuri castle is a red castle located at Naha, Okinawa, Japan. If you are in Naha for a day, this is your must visit place. Very easy to get to on the Monorail. Get off at the Shuri Station and then it is a short 0.5 mile walk. The grounds and palace are nice. You take a self-guided tour by following signs. Limited information is provided but it is enough. There is a good amount of stairs involved to see everything. You can also walk the ramparts. At the main gate, you can dress up in traditional costumes for a fee and get your photo taken. After you are done, take the short walk to the family mausoleum. It is a separate smaller fee and takes about 15 minutes to see. The castle is worth to visit. It is also a nice experience to walk around during night that castle a surrounding areas a nicely lighted. From the surrounding area there is a nice view of the city.

Very touristic as many tours will come by, but the historical value is well worth it. It is children and elderly friendly. It starts with a climb up 6 gates before you reach the castle main grounds. Inside the castle, you will now go back centuries ago where many stories will unfold. Finally at the end of the castle, there is another few more steps up the observatory deck for a final majestic view and scenic view of the city of Okinawa. Highly recommend if in Okinawa.

Long-distance Okinawa 2nd must play attractions!
After coming to Japan, I went to Okinawa no more than 4 or 5 times, but my friend who came to Okinawa for the first time may still be confused and I dont know where to play. The best way to practice is to swim. Okinawa, almost all the lines can be used to punch all the Okinawa must-have attractions, but because Okinawa attractions are far away, so it basically takes two days to play, the route from south to north is relatively smooth, and relatively speaking It's easier! Here, I recommend 5 Okinawa must-have attractions. I have not been to these points. I have never been to Okinawa!
If you are at Naha Airport, start playing in the south of Okinawa

Kokusai-dori Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
A gathering place of tiny restaurants at Naha City. We were a little hesitant at first not knowing how to approach this but the friendly staff invited us to in and sit down. We had a wonderful meal inside, sitting around the bar with a gentleman on one side, a couple with their little girl on the other side. The gentleman chit-chatted with us in English as he was enjoying his seafood and noodle, making us feel much more relaxed. This must be good if locals come out here to have their Sunday dinner. It was a different experience which I will remember for a long time.
This a great place to wander around and enjoy all the shops. There are many food stalls selling all types of local cuisine. The food is good quality and cheap. If you are in need of any supplies or clothes whilst travelling this is a good place to resupply.

A person does not rent a car, and plays all over Okinawa in two days on the weekend
Okinawa is really an island that you can visit at any time during a Shanghai weekend, with cheap flights, a short flight time of just over an hour, and reasonable prices.☺️
✅Cost: Airfare 1100+ Hotel 1500+ Gourmet 1000+ Local Transportation 300+ Hot Spring 100, about 4000 in total, you can save a lot on hotels and food
✅Transportation:
📍The city mainly uses monorail (you can use the Suica card, and it's worth buying a day pass if you use it more than 3 times)
📍The central and northern parts can be accessed by bus, car rental (cannot use a Chinese driver's license), or chartered car. It takes over 100 stops by bus, and it's slow. You can't rent a car with a Chinese driver's license, and chartering a car is not cost-effective for one person, so I joined a bus day tour
✅City attractions
1️⃣Kokusai Dori⭐⭐⭐⭐
It's the commercial center of Naha in Okinawa, known as the 'Miracle Mile of the Post-War', it's recommended to book a hotel nearby for convenience, and there's plenty to eat, drink, and play
2️⃣Shuri Castle⭐⭐⭐
A symbol of the Ryukyu Kingdom, it was almost completely destroyed by a fire a few years ago, it's a high point in Naha and you can also enjoy the city view
3️⃣Naminoue Shrine⭐⭐⭐
A shrine built on the beach, the foremost of the eight shrines in Okinawa, where you can pray for safety and others, and there are many people sunbathing on the beach below
✅Central and northern attractions
1️⃣Manzamo⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The name means a grassland where ten thousand people can sit, there's a cliff that looks like an elephant which is quite beautiful, be aware that the wind is very strong
2️⃣Kouri Island⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A small island in the northern part of Okinawa, passing through the Kouri Bridge connecting Okinawa main island and Kouri Island, you can see the clear, azure sea, and if you're lucky, you might see turtles
3️⃣Ocean Expo Park⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A park that even Crayon Shin-chan has visited, it includes the beautiful Churaumi Aquarium (with an 8-meter-long whale, which Crayon Shin-chan also visited), a folk village (recreating Okinawa's historical folk houses), and Emerald Beach (with shallow and blue water) among other places worth visiting for 3 hours
4️⃣American Village⭐⭐⭐
An American-style town with many bars, it's close to a base so there are many Americans, suitable for shopping and casual strolling, taking photos with exotic scenery, and those who love photography should like it
😒Regret: I didn't make a reservation in advance for a particular Ishigaki beef restaurant I really wanted to try, and was turned away at the door, remember to book in advance for the restaurants you're interested in Kokusai Dori
Prosperous shopping street in Naha
The Skytrain makes reaching the busiest street in Naha City incredibly convenient, taking just 15 minutes. However, self-drivers are advised to avoid the congested traffic after 4 o'clock and opt for peripheral roads for parking nearby. Once parked, exploring the three famous shopping streets, especially the main Kokusai Street, with its array of restaurants, souvenir shops, animation shops, local product stores, and pharmacies, is recommended. Allocate a day to fully experience them all, as the scenery and atmosphere drastically change at night.

Naminoue Shrine Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
One of the 8 shinto shrine in Okinawa
#okinawatrip
This is a must-visit spot in Okinawa. Beautiful shrine at the edge of a cliff in Naha. It's a perfect little sanctuary amongst all the loud chaos nearby. There is a direct entrance to the beach from right next to the shrine will give you an amazing view seeing it on the cliffside. Parking can be difficult, but there are paid parking lots nearby. It was so beautiful!
Primary of a kingdom - Naminoue Shrine
Naminoue Shrine sits atop a high bluff, overlooking Naminoue Beach and the ocean. We walked from the Asahibashi Monorail station around 15 minutes to get there. Enjoy the peaceful feel here and pray for a better life. Then walk down to the beach and really feel relaxed with the beautiful view. #cny2024
Naminoue Shrine (波上宮), Okinawa’s “ichinomiya” (一宮), the highest-ranking shrine in the prefecture is known simply to the locals as ‘Nanminsan’ has a long history dating back to at least the 1300s and today is the most widely-visited place of worship in all of Okinawa.
The shrine is not only one of the most important religious sites in the capital city, but is also a place of worship that is uniquely ‘Okinawan.’ Even though it maintains many of Japan’s traditional design elements, it is unmistakably something that you’re only going to see in Okinawa which makes it stand out from the 80,000 other shrines across the country.
Literally, the “Above the Waves Shrine”, Naminoue Shrine, pronounced [Na-mi-new-oh-eh], sits high on its perch above the Naha Harbour.
The internet is full of claims that the history of the shrine dates back almost a thousand years, but that is actually a bit misleading. There isn’t actually any recorded information or evidence that gives an exact date as to when a shrine was first constructed in this location.

Shuri Castle Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Okinawa Shuri Castle
#okinawatrip
Okinawa's Shuri Castle stands as a poignant symbol of the Ryukyu Kingdom's rich history and cultural heritage. This UNESCO World Heritage site, located in Naha, Japan, boasts intricate architecture, vibrant colors, and sprawling grounds that transport visitors back in time. The castle's majestic gates, graceful gardens, and ornate halls offer glimpses into a bygone era of royalty and tradition. Despite the devastation it faced during World War II, meticulous restoration efforts have restored its grandeur, allowing visitors to marvel at its beauty and significance. Shuri Castle is a must-visit destination, offering a captivating journey through Okinawa's captivating past.
One of the Huge Castle in Okinawa
#okinawatrip
The castle ground is huge. Plenty of walking and good all round view of the city from higher ground. Unfortunately the main hall was totally destroyed in a fire in 2019. Only the 2 sand stone dragon columns at the entrance remained almost intact but still was damaged from the fire. The main hall is currently being reconstructed and targeted to be completed in 2026. Still worth the visit to see the rebuilding progress at the same spot. Amazing skills of these craftsmen are exemplified in short recorded videos. Japan really value some of these traditional trades and skills. Will definitely come back again after the main hall is completed. Parking is available at 400 JPY. Flat rate for about 3 hours so you can also explore around the area outside the castle for food and snacks.
Shurijo Castle- A must visit place in Naha
Shurijo Castle symbolizes the history and culture of Okinawa. Since there was a fire in 2019, the Shurijo Castle is undergoing the reconstruction project. Anyway, they has managed to make the attraction quite special and interesting. I joined the Shurijo Castle Reconstruction construction particularly experience based event -Bengalese stripes coating experience. We apply Bengalese stripes to edge materials of wood used for the Shurijo Castle rebuilding. By decorating with crayon and magic, Shurijo Castle properties stamp, original work is completed. we take it home as a souvenir. The view at the top of the Shurijo Park. We really enjoy to visit Shurijo Castle. Small note to tourist who travel by public transport: Board on monorail and get down from Station 15- Shurijo, walk about 15 minutes. If you are interested to get more information about Shurijo Castle, please go to official website and you can get all the info with different kind of languages. ##Okinawa
Shuri Castle
#okinawatrip I visited Shuri Castle a decade ago and thus, I was able to view the original rebuild. Since my visit it burned down, which gave this visit a very different meaning.
First off, it’s a bit disingenuous to still advertise the complex with the main structure as the picture, considering that’s what burned down. But if you don’t go in expecting to see that structure, you’ll be very rewarded.
It made for a beautiful afternoon exploring the grounds and reading about the rebuild efforts that are taking place.
I was surprised this time to find the tunnel system used during the war. I had not realized that was here the last time.
It was a very informative afternoon, filled with lots of beauty!
