I enjoyed what I believe was an authentic Japanese ramen experience. We stood while we ate the best ramen I've had, ever. The manager / owner was pleasant, genuine, helpful & accommodating.. My family had a great meal @ a reasonable Manhattan price. Will visit Ramen Lab every time I come into the city.
This is a tiny place with no seating, standing for about 12, we waited about 30 minutes for a spot, not bad for a Saturday night. There are only two noodle dishes available, Torigara Shoyu Ramen (pork and chicken) and xo Miso Ramen (vegetarian). I had the vegetarian one and my husband had the other. You order when you are in the line so by the time you get to your standing spot there's virtually no wait. The ramen is so good, really deep, complex flavors. I preferred my noodles as they were thicker and chewier, and the broth had a nice opaque consistency. The broth in my husbands dish was more like a consomme, but both were very flavorful. Only complaint is that you feel compelled to eat as quickly as possible as the line continues to grow outside and everyone is watching you wondering when you're going to finish (we did it when we were waiting!) It wasn't a very relaxing eating experiences with the pressure on to eat piping hot noodles fast! I would love to eat them again in a more relaxed atmosphere, like my own apartment. (they don't do take-out).
Very small place and no seats. You wait on line, then stand at counter, then eat, then leave. You must leave because a long line is waiting outside. Although ramen is very good and taste like ramen, it is on the chewy, under-cooked side ala Toto Ramen. Ingredients are very fresh and tasty. Drinks are limited and you get canned beer. Service for most part is cheery and friendly. Great price for what you get. Overall, an interesting, somewhat satisfying but not too enjoyable experience because of the assembly-line treatment.
