    Shikanoshima Island Shrine, Fukuoka, Japan

Shikaumi Shrine is located on Shikanoshima island; attached by a sandbar to Fukuoka, Japan; surprisingly included as part of the city. This shrine is the top shrine to the sea deity and is worshiped ...

    Clean sand, not clean salt.

    Original Text

At a shrine on Shiga Island, the god of maritime guardianship and reverence is enshrined. There is a rare custom of purifying the mind and body with the sand called "Mishioi" and worshiping, and the method is carefully posted. The shrine is located in a small high place and has a very nice view.

    Clean sand

    Original Text

It is a shrine on Shiga Island. The characteristic thing is that it is cleaned with sand, not ordinary hand water. You can walk from the ferry pier.

This Shigakai Shrine has long been called the "head office of the sea gods" and has been revered as the general guardian of Hakata Bay. As it tells the old history, there were many shrines in the precincts that seemed to have passed through a long time. The first thing I saw at this shrine was the purified sand called Oshioi.
