The Noboribetsu, the No. 1 hot spring town in Hokkaido, is located in the southwestern part of Hokkaido. It is the largest and best quality hot spring in Hokkaido. The Noboribetsu Onsen, which is part of the Toyao National Park, has rich landscapes such as virgin forests and lakes, and the most famous of them is the Hell Valley. In Noboribetsu, all the hot spring water comes from the Hell Valley. The volcanic gas ejects from the surface of the gray-yellow rock. The surrounding air is filled with strong sulfur odor. The hot air evaporates from the Hell Valley on a cloudy day. It is simply a scene in hell. The valley is a 450-meter-diameter crater, and the hot springs produce up to 3,000 liters per minute. Because the water from the Hell Valley is hot, it is more suitable for use as a hot spring water, and the gas evaporating from the Hell Valley is hot. There are dozens of hot springs with their own characteristics, some of which are hydrogen sulfide water, some are salt water, and some contain iron. The Noboribetsu Onsen has excellent water quality and has been listed as one of the world's rare hot springs. The No. Hell Valley is filled with volcanic gas ejected from the surface of the gray-yellow rock all the year round. The surrounding air is filled with a strong sulphur smell, which looks like a scene of hell. Winter mottled white snow shrouded the Hell Valley, making it look even more strange.
