Great Blue Hole

The Great Blue Hole is located about 96 kilometers off Belize, near Lighthouse Reef, and is one of the largest underwater caves in the world. The outside of the Great Blue Hole is round, with a diameter of about 304 meters and a depth of about 122 meters. Today, the Great Blue Hole is a famous diving resort. A French explorer declared that the hole is "one of the top ten diving spots in the world". The original Great Blue Hole was a limestone cave that began to form around 150,000 years ago. As the Ice Age ended, the cave was submerged, the roof collapsed, and the water level gradually rose, creating this unique cave. Looking down from above, the deep blue color of the hole indicates that it has great depth, especially when compared to the shallow water nearby, its color is unusually deep and attractive. The Great Blue Hole is famous for its clear waters and diverse flora and fauna, where you can encounter nurse sharks, Caribbean reef sharks and bull sharks. If you are not good at diving, snorkeling at the mouth of the cave and nearby is also a good experience.
