The new castle staircase (Nové zámecké schody) is a public ramp in Prague designed for walkers, connecting the town's Thunovskou Street with the castle square in front of Prague's castle, which also forms the dividing line between the town and the castle district. The ladder was first recorded in 1278 and was called Strmá cesta in the Middle Ages. The 17th century has formed its current appearance. The name of the new castle ladder is actually misleading, as it is actually earlier than the old castle ladder (Staré zámecké schody) on the eastern side of Prague.
