Introduction to Xiaoming Building Xiaoming Building is located in Pei County, Jiangsu Province. It was built in the 1920s by French missionaries. It is one of the less preserved Western-style buildings in Xuzhou. The building adopts a combination of Chinese and Western styles, reflecting the situation in which Western culture was introduced to China in the early 20th century. Xiaoming Building, located on the campus of Peixian Junior High School, is a provincial key cultural relics protection unit. Peixian Xiaoming Building has a unique architectural style, other churches and ancillary facilities are basically Western architectural styles, only Peixian Xiaoming Building has both Western architectural features and oriental garden features, which are rare in the country. . Relevant information on the history of Xiaoming Building shows that Xiaoming Building, formerly a Catholic church, was built in 1707 for French missionaries, and Xiaoming Building, where the clergy lived, was built in 1919. After the completion of the Catholic Church, French missionaries built a church school on the southwest side of the church and named it "Xiaoming Mission School", which is why later generations collectively referred to these buildings as "Xiaoming Building". The building has a complete structure, complete functions, simple and elegant shape, and is in good condition. The original church, classrooms and clergy building on the site were demolished in 1972, and the clergy building, seven classrooms and four offices still remain. The building of the clergyman's building is in the shape of a curved ruler and is divided into upper and lower floors. The upper floor is for living and office, and the lower floor is the basement, which is separated by wooden planks, with a total area of 1458.21 square meters. The building is a combination of Chinese and Western brick-concrete structure, divided into two parts. The exterior walls are all clear-water brick walls, the doors, windows and corridors are all made of arch-type clear-water brick coupons, triangular brick drawer-type cornice flying bricks, and the south facade of the east building is made of wooden bucket arches. According to the introduction of the relevant comrades of the Pei County Museum, the site originally had a church, classrooms and residential buildings for clergy. The church was demolished in 1972, and 7 classrooms and 4 offices of the clergy residence building and the mission school are still intact. The current Xiaoming Building has been carefully restored and reopened, and the restored Xiaoming Building is now used as a school history museum.
