We can see the grand momentum of Badgang Duba Square. Apart from the 500-year-old Palace of the Mala Dynasty, the square is surrounded by various temples and pagodas, which are dazzling. Because there are so many palaces, courtyards, temples, statues and so on with historical background and artistic characteristics, it is also known as "the essence and treasure house of Nepalese art in the Middle Ages" by tourists from all over the world. The tour guide led us into the 55 window palace, which was once part of the Palace of Badgang, built in 1427. The main palace is a four-storey brick-and-wood structure with dark red walls. It is named for its fifty-five black lacquer sandalwood carved window. The wooden carvings decorated by its window lattices are famous for their precious stones and carvings which show Nepal's exquisite artistic level in the Middle Ages. The main entrance to the courtyard of the Old Palace is the famous "Golden Gate" on the Durba Square in Badgang. This is the work of Ranajit Mala, the last king of Badgang, which was built in 1754. Golden door frame, door head and top decoration are copper plated gold, exquisitely carved magnificent, is the representative of Nepalese bronze carving gold decoration art. The guide also showed us the King's open-air bathing pool in the Old King's Palace. The simple facilities were in sharp contrast to the exquisite brick and stone carvings. It seemed that the King's living standard was not high at that time, but his artistic appreciation ability was very strong.
