Chetham''s Library It’s not a big library, but it’s very popular because it’s open to all citizens. You can see a few-year-old children and a faltering white-haired elderly. The atmosphere of learning for the whole people is very strong. ~

The Chesam Library is also a very classical British traditional style building. The museum environment and scale are also very good. You can enjoy some very rich and interesting things here. [Fun] A very interesting environment.

The Chessam Library has a long history, decorated with pink sandstone walls, oak fittings, and a large number of books. Note the opening hours, they close for an hour at lunchtime. And the library site belongs to a school, so all visitors must go directly to the library, where Marx once read books.

I adore this library! It's historic and charming and quintessentially British. It reminds me of Harry Potter; in fact, the fireplace was used (or was in inspiration) for the one in the novels/movies. It's the oldest free public reference library in the United Kingdom. Plus Chetham's was the meeting place of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. It's free to visit, but you'll have to join a guided tour. Look up tour times in advance. It's located within a school, so you'll need to be escorted.

Founded in 1653, Chetham's is the oldest surviving public library in Britain. The building dates from 1421, when it served as a priests' college. The library houses a vast collection of books, many of them centuries old, and an ornate reading room. It was in this room that Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels sat reading together during the summer of 1845; it is possible to sit in the alcove where they sat, and the books they read are still housed in the library.
