The church was built in the eighth century, but the earliest reference date is the eleventh century. It was dedicated to St. James, and the twelfth century was renovated and expanded, using funds provided by the families of Badro and da Mura. More reconstructions took place in the early 16th century, and later suffered earthquakes, which were restored in the early 20th century.
