In 1190, a violent riot occurred in the tower of Clifford, where some Christian businessmen tried to destroy the Jewish community in order to rebuff the debts they owed to Jewish bankers. A hundred and fifty Jews who survived fled here, but were eventually forced to commit suicide. I have to lament that the same thing happened to the Jews again more than 800 years later, remembering talking to German colleagues who said that Jews had been persecuted and tortured from time to time since ancient Rome. But this tenacious nation, with its own ingenuity, has become powerful in mastering the local economy in different places. The gods are fair, give some, and always take some. The top of the tower has been destroyed, except for the walls around it, it is completely invisible. Standing at the top of the tower, you can see the panoramic view of York City. Looking around, it is full of ancient buildings, and time seems to be suspended here.
