Visiting the de Young is a fantastic way to be introduced to American art of all periods. The museum has a diverse collection of pieces since it was founded in 1895, which includes 27,000 works of art, such as sculptures, paintings, works on paper, costumes and textiles. From April through November the de Young organizes a free Friday night event where public is invited to come to the museum and enjoy a performance. There are lectures, artists demonstrations, hands-on activities, and more. Make sure you check out the Hamon tower, where you get a 360 degree view of San Francisco through the glass walls that surround the platform.
