In addition to a centuries-old Royal Danish Opera House, Copenhagen has a more novel and expensive Copenhagen Opera House. The opera house, one of the world's most modern opera houses, cost more than DKK 2.4 billion and one of the world's most expensive, opened on January 15, 2005. The opera house is located on Dak Island, where it was originally a shipyard. The Opera House is fronted by wide glass and light brown Jurassic rocks, with 14 floors, 9 above ground and 5 below ground.
