The East Gate site is the epitome of Yangzhou's 2,500-year history. Thousands of years ago, Li Bai's good friend Meng Haoran came to Yangzhou City through the Grand Canal. Yangzhou was so prosperous at that time, Li Bai was full of envy for old friends to go to Yangzhou, so he wrote a remarkable poem, expressing envy and jealousy: the old man resigned from the Yellow Crane Tower, fireworks went down to Yangzhou in March. The lonely sails were far away and the blue sky was clear, only the Yangtze River sky flow was seen. The East Gate site was built in the middle of the Tang Dynasty, and the five generations, the two Songs, Ming and Qing generations have repaired the city gate and city wall here, covering an area of about 16 square kilometers. In three archaeological excavations since 2000, it was found that the relationship between the remnants of the city gates in the Tang, Wu Dynasty, Northern and Southern Song Dynasty was clear, and the city walls were about 15-20 meters thick. The city gate is6.07 meters wide, according to the records of the Song Dynasty "Building French", combined with the discovery of previous archaeological drilling, it is estimated that the city wall is about 10 meters high. Because Yangzhou's history has experienced the three largest wars and cultural catastrophes in the Yuan, Ming and Cultural Revolution periods, most of the buildings have been destroyed. The physical buildings that can be seen in Yangzhou are almost all of the Ming and later. Now the East Gate site is the only place in Yangzhou that can feel the sense of 2,500 years of history. In front of the city, two small bridges were passed. Under the bridge, sealed with transparent glass is the foundation that was found in the city gate. So this gate has not changed for thousands of years, so Meng Haoran should be through the East Gate to Dongguan Street.
