East China University of Political Science and Law is located in Changning District, Shanghai, formerly known as the East China School of Political Science and Law, which was established by the merger of the law, politics and social departments of nine universities, including the former St. John's University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Dongwu University, Xiamen University, Lijiang University and Zhendan University.

East China University of Political Science and Law was founded in 1952. Back to its predecessor, the school is on the former site of St. John's University.
