Heilongjiang Fenglin National Nature Reserve is located in Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province, founded in 1958. Special management institutions were established in 1963. It was approved as a national nature reserve by the State Council in 1988. In 1993, it joined the Chinese and Biosphere Network. In 1997, it was included in the World Biosphere Reserve Network by UNESCO, and is a demonstration area for capacity-building, research and promotion of sustainable forest management of the United Nations Development Programme, and the earliest protected area in Heilongjiang Province to join the World Biosphere Network. In 2006, it was listed as a national demonstration protected area. The main protection objects are the northern temperate needle broad-leaved mixed forest ecosystem and rare wildlife, which are mainly red pine.
