The main building of Wugong Temple was built in Qing Guangxu for 15 years (1889 AD) to commemorate the five historical dignitaries of Li Deyu (Prime Minister of the Tang Dynasty), Li Gang and Zhao Ding (all Prime Minister of the Song Dynasty), Li Guang and Hu Yu (all academicians of the Song Dynasty), who were delegated to Qiong in the Tang and Song Dynasty. The name is due to the admiration of the Five Principals of the sages. Above and on both sides of the building, there are statues of these five historical dignitaries, all of them lifelike, who have experienced the vicissitudes of Hainan and witnessed the changes of Hainan.
