There are always two kinds of accounts of the place of the Virgin Mary's Sleeping Cathedral in Jerusalem, Israel, and Ephesus in Turkey. Not far from the Kassimani Garden, there is also a tomb of the Virgin Mary (Church). Orthodox believe that the Virgin Mary is buried in the tomb and ascended three days later. The Catholic Church believes that after Mary is asleep, the soul and body are directly taken away by the Lord and called to heaven. The Church of the Virgin Mary is located on Mount Zion. When Emperor William II came to Jesus Salem to worship the Savior Church in 1898, he paid a heavy price to buy the place from Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II, where it has been said to be the place where the Virgin slept. In 1899 architect Renard discovered the remains of the Byzantine church, and designed and built it here. The church of the Virgin Abedin has a special architectural style, with a blue conical roof surrounded by four small towers and a towering bell tower next to it. The light from the windows above the tall vaults gently shines into the church. The mosaic above the altar is painted as the Virgin and the young Jesus. The altar is surrounded by six arches, six altars, and the inner walls are painted with gold mosaic paintings depicting Jesus' family, bishops and saints. The spiral staircase leads to the underground church. In the middle of the underground church is the place to commemorate the death of the Virgin Mary, where the statue of the Virgin Mary sleeps, made of ivory and cherry wood. The bottom is surrounded by small altars, simple and solemn.
