Further down the west side of the square is the Pump House People's History Museum near the Awell River. The theme of the exhibition is social history and the workers'movement. The People's Museum has positioned itself as a National Centre for collecting, preserving and explaining the history of the British worker masses. It provides a view of the lives of the worker masses over the past two hundred years.

very nice exhibition. you get to know more about democratic development in different countries. I visited it back in Dec 2022, the heater was not strong enough to keep visitors warm.

We are impressed with the interactive prison tour under the COVID conditions led by Nina. She was excellent at taking us back in time, setting the scene and sharing lots of intriguing stories for us to visualise lives several centuries ago. It makes one grateful of all we have in 2020 even with COVID. Due to the tour only entries, the debtors prison was all to ourselves. Plenty of opportunities to ask questions and wonder around within the slot.

For those who set eyes on Deansgate's The John Rylands Research Institute and Library for the first time, 'library' might not be the first word that comes to mind. This masterpiece of Victorian Gothic architecture looks more like a castle or cathedral.

The People's History Museum is committed to collecting, protecting and displaying the history, culture and heritage related to the British working class, so that tourists can easily understand the lifestyle of British workers and the extraordinary history of the civilian public in the past 200 years. There are not many people in the museum, and there are many texts in it. The reading is huge, so it takes a long time to get to know, suitable for friends interested in politics or party history.
