For those in marginally fair physical shape, a walk down the fire road that begins at the top of 160-acre Runyon Canyon Park (using the northern entrance off the 7300 block of Mulholland Drive) offers an impressive view of the Los Angeles Basin ranging from the Hollywood Sign to downtown, to the Palos Verdes Peninsula and Santa Monica. It will also take you to within a few blocks of Grauman's Chinese Theatre and the Roosevelt Hotel. The walk back won't be as bad as it looks. Eavesdropping on and watching the many other walkers (and a few joggers), including an occasional celebrity and wannabe, will serve as welcome distractions in this dog friendly park. Sir Richard Branson of Virgin fame told the L.A. Times that "Hiking Runyon Canyon is an L.A. must-do...the people-watching is great - people and their dogs."
