Stanley Park is Vancouver's most famous park, covering 1,000 acres. It is the largest urban park in North America and one of the world's most famous parks, Vancouver Chinese Paradise. Originally a peninsula prominent in the English Bay, Vancouver's first municipal council passed an important resolution in 1886 asking the Confederate government to reconstruct the 1,000-acre green space for park use. In 1888, the park was officially opened and named after Sir Stanley, Governor of Canada. Located in the heart of Vancouver, the park is a forest-covered Peninsula covering thousands of acres. It's only fifteen minutes'walk from downtown Vancouver. If you travel by bus from downtown, take the #19Stanley Park bus and get off at the terminal. On return, take the # 19MetrotownStation bus. The bus runs every 12 to 20 minutes. In addition, the #52 Around the Park bus goes around the park every two days on Saturdays and Days, once every hour, for about 30 minutes. Be careful not to drink or eat in the car. It takes about 30 minutes to walk from downtown to Stanley Park.
