One of the most beautiful and oldest churches is located in Trastevere's central piazza - Santa Maria in Trastevere. Interior is quite a sight - nave is held by 21 ancient Roman columns, while gold mosaics dating back to the 12th century adorne the walls. Another church worth your time is Santa Cecilia in Trastevere built over ancient houses, one of them probably belonging to the saint.
