Phra Mongkhon Bophit Built in 1357, the temple is dedicated to Thailand's largest bronze Buddha statue. It was originally erected outdoors and is said to have been specially ordered to move from his original location when Song was in power. The temple was also damaged in the invasion of the Burmese army in 1767, and the head and right hand of the Buddha statue were destroyed. It was not until the reign of Rama V in the 1950s that the temple was rebuilt, and in 1956 the statue was restored with a donation from Myanmar to restore the main temple. The statue was found to have hundreds of small Buddhas inside during the restoration process, attracting Buddhists from the big city to visit.
